A couple of weeks ago, DocMego was nice enough to send me one of his new female bodies, no charge.
I got her within days of him shipping her out, and she is beautiful!
You've all seen the pictures, and know that her hips can be popped in and out. Well, let me tell you, that's no lie. The hips DO pop in and out, very easily, and with no sticking or cracking of the pelvis.
From what I can make out, the ball joint that forms the middle of the torso, is one with the upper body piece. The vintage Mego bodies had a separate ball joint.
As to the stringing of the elastic, that's a bit tougher. I don't think that they are strung the same as the vintage dolls. I'd have to look inside to really see what's going on. But from what I can tell, the legs have the same hip pins as the male bodies do.
The upper legs are REALLY nice. Completely solid, with no flashing or badly glued seams; these are some great thighs!
The lower leg is the same.
Now, as to the feet. They are a teensy bit larger than those of the vintage girls, but you can put tights from Brian or the vintage ones on without a problem. Just make sure that the hips are out when you do, it's a bit tricky getting them to go up when the hips are inside the sockets.
As to putting vintage shoes on the doll with tights. Forget it! I tried to put a pair of CTVT witch shoes on her, with tights on, and the shoe wasn't very forgiving and bulged as I tried to put it on, so I gave it up.
However, Laurie does sell shoes that fit the doll with tights on. Try the black loafers, or the ones with the slight heel. The other shoes, the red and black pumps are sold out, but the ones that I have fit well.
Back when I had my originals, I used to put shoes from Barbie and Skipper onto them, as I was always loosing Dinah-mite's boots. The sneakers fit with no problem, as do some of the pilgrim shoes. The flats fit too, but soften them up first.
Barbie's boots are a little too long to fit properly onto the doll, they'd probably come up to mid thigh or something.
The neck post is nice and doesn't go into the body cavity. Just watch out for the pin that keeps the elastic in place. Turn it upside down, otherwise, if it turns crooked and comes out, the whole doll will come apart.
Although, some craft floral wire, put through the elastic loop, then twisted the hold in place might be a good substitute.
I put a spare Mary Ellen head on mine, ME dress, tights, and a pair of Laurie's shoes, (which are way better than the CTVT crud, or even the originals, which were prone to splitting.) and voila! A whole new Mary Ellen Walton!
No, I don't have any pictures. But I will take some real soon, I promise.
Good job Doc!
