    Captain Action Fans Thread

Hi, there! I'm a Mego figures collector and just started to collect Captain Action figures as well (these are pretty much Mego-Like). The Mego Talk at the Mego Museum is definitely the forum where you can address any matters regarding Mego figures. I am looking for a GOOD Captain Action forum as well. Any Captain Action fans out there? Can you refer me to a Captain Action discussion boards? If not, we should consider starting a thread for this sake. I have many, many questions. I live in Puerto Rico where the weather is hot (always above 80F) and the relative humidity levels are very high. I'm looking forward on recommendations for Captain Action costumes storage conditions, displaying condition, etc. etc. Also, would like to be referred to repro items sites other than Calssick Plastick or Rauty's. I'll appreciate any help with this matter. Thanks in advance! Boy

I think CASTAWAY TOYS is going to be selling MEGO sized "Captain Action" figures pretty soon...

Captain Action is one of those lines I have a problem with keeping. For some reason, I've bought, then later sold, many of the outfits over the years (perhaps due to lack of nostalgic attachment, because these were before my time? I never even knew CA existed until adulthood). It is a great line, so one day I have to get more serious about it and stop selling off CA items that I acquire.

I have no attachment to Captain Action either. He was before my time as well. I used to have a neighbor that had a couple of the outfits and we put them on G.I. Joes but by then Megos had made their debut. I tried the Playing Mantis repros but without the Marvel and DC heroes, it was a poor line. Nice having the Green Hornet & Kato, the Phantom, and Ming but that was a horrible Flash Gordon. Plus I didn't care for the 1/6 scale. Took up too much display room.

I did pre-order the Captain Action and Dr. Eville figures, figured it would be nice to help out Dave and they will display nice with my Megos. But I am much looking forward to Castaway's solo Phantom and (rumored) Flash Gordon lines.

These are my thoughts exactly. I really dig the line, but I have no emotional attachment to it. I sold all my CA stuff this year and don't regret it at all. I'm trying my best to keep my "70's focus" when it comes to toys....

I'm with you on that, I had a pretty smashing collection at one point but I sold it with little regret. Attempts to rebuild have ending with me selling it to buy mego stuff.

It's downright nifty but vintage Captain Action collecting is probably more interesting to 60's kids.

About ten years ago I recollected the original Captain Action figure (complete in his box) and also bought up the entire Playing Mantis line when they were introduced (including the repackaged retro boxed figures and costume sets). I was looking forward to the Speed Racer costume set when the line was abruptly ended (which was very disappointing). It was a frustrating line to collect because production was delayed countless times and the cost fluctuated greatly, which I think played a key role in the line's ultimate undoing.
With this latest installment, I have picked up the retro model kit (which I love), but have held up buying the Mego-style figures until I see if they are going to hit retail shelves as mentioned in a recent thread. The current owners of this character really have some strong ideas and the early buzz is hard not to notice. They are clearly innovative in a way that both Ideal and Playing Mantis never envisioned and I applaud their creativity. But the figures are pretty limited right now, so I'm going to wait until they get into the retail market so I can get some instant gratification when I want them. I can see myself buying two or three of each of them and the Phantom is just incredible.
