It isn't Mego type 3, plain and simple. But, people can call it what they want. You guys pushing for "type 3" are being ridiculous, in my opinion. There is no real debate, and everybody can call it whatever they want. It is really more Emce, than "original Mego". It copies the original Mego body, but actually uses molds from the Emce body. It has all the flaws that the Emce body had. There are some facts for you. Please digest before pooping.Leave a comment:

Seriously, with all due respect, how are you going to stop anyone from referring to them as Type 3? It's all shorthand terms, it's no official designation.
Likewise, this is referring to MEGO stuff, not your custom stuff. So it's a Mego Type 3, or Type 3 for short.
I dig your customs, I appreciate that you have used the term for years, have the domain, whatever, but it's apples and oranges.
At best your stuff can be referred to as Type 3 Toys, but when it comes to Mego, Type 3 is the new body style.
In order for you to legitimately try to lay claim for Type 3, you'd have to have owned the Mego name at some point. Just as if Mego developed a new body and called it Type S, then they'd still technically be the Type S Mego body because ONLY MEGO IS MEGO.
Everything else, is a custom, or a different brand/style that may or may not be similar.
And yours isn't even similar. No one is going to confuse your stuff with Type 3 of the Mego body. It's a moot point.
Giving it some weird name that no one can remember because someone has made customs and called them Type 3 is silly. When the first versions of the body are referred to as Type 0, Type 1, Type 2, etc. And the cat's out of the bag, lots of people in lots of places are already calling them Type 3. It's just kind a losing battle, IMO.Leave a comment:

yer biased.I suggest we call them something else. We have type o, type 1, type 2 vintage and now type 2 new.
I have Type 3. I have had Type 3 since January 2004. That's 15 years of Type 3.
Please, someone come up with an original idea for a body name, like I did 15 years ago when I named the body I designed the Type 3.
Thanks.
but i will side with you if you feel we can get some money out of the naming rights.Leave a comment:

Never take my name in vain again! If I had created a body like John's, I'd prefer that people referred to it as a 'Steve' instead of a type 3. I refer to all of the figures I own of John's as "Farleys." I call my Jason Roberts figures "BKs" and my Scott Pierce figures "Axels." I've got "Dunsels" and "McDaves" and "Grimjohns" and "Houghnagels."

Don't even think about calling it Type 3. Farley has been using that for years and is legally his "brand". So just cut it out right now!Leave a comment:

I'll leave females. muscle bodies, and teens for another day.
I forgot that there really are several variants if the T2 figure:
what is OMBC? original body, BC? cave men?
Fat Bodies.
Trek bodies. Does a different lower leg make it differernt enough?
other body variations? (Lizard)
Foreign versions?
Colors?Leave a comment:

Now that I think about it, John's body is more of a Type2F. Charlee's first efforts were Mego/LJN hybrids with his own hands and feet. I'll call that Type0F. I'll call the Flattworld bodies Type1F, and the Farley bodies Type2F. Somebody can come along and make an 8" scale hyper-articulated body with knees and elbows like the 14" Mego knee joint, and it can be called Type3F, as but whoever creates it must have a last name that begins with the letter 'F.'

No, you're not getting that three minutes of your life back.Leave a comment:

^You're right on the changeups. To me, those are modern adaptations of the T2 build. Like T0 to T1: the same thing but metal joints.
When it comes to T3, what John is doing carries on from what Flatt was doing. The articulation, the dimensions. If the new Mego's had ball mount necks, swivel biceps, etc...they would be T3 in design. John would still be Type3, just as ZICA and Type S are themselves.Leave a comment:

I typed this earlier but must have failed to hit enter. I think you're really understating the differences present in the new Mego body.
male neck plug
hard plastic torso and pelvis
solid limbs made out of a flexible material different from the torso and pelvis
flexible hands that grip better than original Mego ever did
different innards
different pins connecting joints
lower center of gravity due different weight distribution
The evolution is significant IMO. Also, IMHO, there's nothing "original" about referring to a scratch-built body as "type 3" when there's already an established type 0, 1, and 2. If I threw together an engine and some sheet metal and called it a "Mach 15" and said the name was an "original idea" people would laugh. All that being said I don't see why the new bodies aren't simply referred to as "the new bodies." I am a simple caveman collector and your complicated debates frighten and confuse me.Leave a comment:
