I watched a video last night about a toy hunter at Ross and saw this thread this morning. So I drove out to my local Ross. Nothing. No Mego. And nothing for teenage or adult fans or collectors, not that I would expect Ross to carry anything like that. No Mego at my local Target or Walmart either.
Every so often over the last several years, when I've seen really great finds at Ross mentioned online, I've made a point to go into the Ross nearest me when I'm next in the area. And the toy section at my Ross has never, ever had anything on the shelves anywhere near as good as what others have found elsewhere, even at Christmastime. Bummer for me. I don't think I've ever been moved to buy a toy at 'my' Ross. (Very similar experience at the Burlington a few stores down.)
Seeing those boxed Penguins on the shelf takes me right back to 1974.
Right down to the price too! (okay, it was still cheaper in 1974).
My area has a bunch of Ross Stores now and when they first opened, they had some decent McFarlane DC Multiverse figures, like the Gold Label The Batman Catwoman. Just nothing I wanted, but it was something.
Now? Nada. The only things of any mild interest are some Funkos. I picked up the Amazon Exclusive Captain America set cheap and now I see the jumbo 10" Gotham Knights Nightwing (which I decided to skip), but none of the cool McFarlane DC, Marvel Legends or Mego stuff people are finding at their stores.
We have several Ross stores near me, but I've yet to find any of those McFarlane, Hasbro or Mego closeouts that have been bandied about, unfortunately.
