Personally I think we are DROWNING in Mego-related product. It wasn't that long ago that a few very talented folks on this forum got together and made a kind of 'What if' Mego catalog of custom figures that were never produced. The odd thing today? Many of those featured have since been manufactured and are now common pieces in our collections. So allot of "grails" have fallen by the way side since those days when we all sat here and romanticized the possibilities. That's the beauty of not having everything you want - You can still dream about it. And I think therein lies the lesson in this hobby that I sometimes have to remind myself. I bond with these figures because of the warm memories similar figures offered me in childhood. If I didn't have that connection, I most likely wouldn't be here or possess these today. So while there is a definite art to how these are made, ultimately it's the inner-child these speak to that motivates me to want them. If it goes beyond that, I have invested more of myself than is practical here.
In terms of tastes, sure, there will be those I like and those I have no interest in. And yes there will be some figures that look quirky to me. As a hobby I don't think anyone is devoid of a measuring stick when they look at something. But it's like anything. It's how you say something that makes all the difference. Not every figure comes out as intended and not everything looks proportioned as some would like it to be. This will always be subjective no matter what kind of formula you put to it. But I think the biggest thing I try to remember is I'm here to celebrate my love of the hobby and share that admiration with others.Comment

I applaud what CTVT/FTC does, whether they get it right or not. And that goes for clothes, figures, cars, planes, trains and automobiles. :-)
Now whether that makes me open my wallet, is simply subject to my own tastes, opinions, needs and desires.
By now, I've learned to have a GREAT BIG GRAIN OF SALT handy when it comes to CTVT/FTC announcements, and I have their # on speed dial
when after I receive product if it is unacceptable. I'm just hope that they take take the time to take notes on their returns and try to do better.
As for Price point, like someone said in another thread, there is no reason to buy them at $30 a pop. Deals can be had ( ThinkGeek, EE, BBTS)
and now that they realize many of us don't or want clamshells, they have bagged product. You have to wait, but if more of us did that, it would
send a clear message to them to drive their price point down. Not buying at $30 a pop makes enjoying the hobby easier....
And as for getting along, to each his/her own in this hobby of ours. My Megoverse doesn't look like anyone elses, and I'm happy with that.
And no matter what yours is, as long as your happy with it, then hey we agree on something.....Customizing 1:9: My Videoblog journey of Customizing!

The internet was built for criticism. Like it or not, everyone gets a voice.
If I ever reach the point where I feel something is unjust, too personal, or bothers my mind after I step away from the computer, then I take a break for a while.

The original Mego figures had tons of flaws. The elastics broke, the thumbs broke, the knees broke. They were actually kind of cheap figures, compared to the seemingly heartier Jims and Joes(before the muscle bodies) of the day. Canonical accuracy was a non-issue because it didn't seem to matter. Nevertheless we remember them fondly because we were children having fun, not adults collecting. Now we expect value for our money and/or some sort of accountability. Most manufacturers do their utmost to oblige us but still come out with a product that is less than perfect. I'm not sure exactly what I'm driving at here, maybe some of us have lost our way. Some of the criticism I see of various products here and elsewhere seems meanspirited and childish. It's as though people have forgotten why they want these things, or the magic of them just being around at all. I love a good balanced critique, it helps me make decisions about purchases or changes to figures I might buy. But beating on the people are trying to put this stuff together is a drag.Last edited by MysteryWho; Apr 5, '16, 2:45 PM.Comment

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, if everyone liked the same thing, life would be boring, disagreements and debates
is what makes things interesting, as long as disagreements are in good taste and not bashing an individual who's trying
to please everyone, because that's near impossible. If FTC, EMCE, Diamond Select, Doc Mego, or any other manufacture
keeping the Mego memory alive for us never existed, we would be trying to create our own versions, which might not
come out so great, especially if we were not able to get clothing and accessories from these sites.
Who here doesn't like or appreciate the 66 Batman line? so maybe the quality doesn't agree with everyone, but at least
there available for us (if) we want them, and we have the ability to fix them to are liking and I thank FTC for coming up with the idea and effort, thanks to them keeping the Mego memory alive, were very fortunate.Last edited by TrekStar; Apr 5, '16, 5:06 PM.Comment

Just because people have issues with a company or ratchet up the criticism on one specific figure/product doesn't mean they want people to die or want to see the company go away.
There are legitimate gripes about FTCs product just as there are legitimate reasons to praise a lot of what they've done.
Basically you only want positive affirmations about everything on this forum? Is that correct? (If you don't like what's in a particular thread you could always go read another one. That's what I do)Comment

Not that criticisms are bad (and they're not) but maybe some of the more childish crap could go away.
This is my hobby and I can honestly say there are days I don't come on here because the behaviour between adults sickens me.Places to find PlaidStallions online: https://linktr.ee/Plaidstallions

Hugs to all my Mego brothers.
I love my Batman 66 figures! Every one of them. If we had these back in the day, we would have been thrilled.
What are we up to almost 30 66' figures now including variants? This is a special time for us to be able to collect these.
Are they perfect? No, but some are pretty dam close!

I will say that I try to think twice and post once. Sometimes I'm really disappointed but I strive to be circumspect.
There is an element of denigration here at times that really wears on me, though. Yet I'm still here every day, because the cool figures and kind, fun members outweigh the "bad."WANTED: Dick Grayson SI trousers; gray AJ Mustang horse; vintage RC Batman (Bruce Wayne) head; minty Wolfman tights; mint Black Knight sword; minty Launcelot boots; Lion Rock (pale) Dracula & Mummy heads; Lion Rock Franky squared boots; Wayne Foundation blue furniture; Flash Gordon/Ming (10") unbroken holsters; CHiPs gloved arms; POTA T2 tan body; CTVT/vintage Friar Tuck robes, BBP TZ Burgess Meredith glasses.Comment

Oh of course but we could also stand to be better, there is nothing wrong with addressing the issues before they get worse.Places to find PlaidStallions online: https://linktr.ee/Plaidstallions

No, I think the spirit of this is we don't have to fight.

Or there's the guys that it seems just find fault in everything-they really bug me because as so many of you stated here this is great time to be a Mego person. Yup Remegos aren't perfect, but neither were the originals. Yes, its better to a Mego fan now than in the '70s!
Very reassuring there's people here that feel the same way I do, and I appreciate all of you that took the time to chime in.
Now I think I'm gonna order a '66 Batgirl, but just for the outfit...

I think for the most part the debates have been above board.Comment

As for the debate you started about debating.....or this 'stating an opinion' thread.... my brother and I used to moderate a vastly larger forum for a band. This little forum is a good example of what a forum is.. debate and discussion. People voicing their opinions and other people responding and agreeing and disagreeing. I think the praise and criticism are both good and generally the mixture is probably a lot more accurate than just one side or the other. No company is perfect, they are all going to flub stuff up at times, some companies worse than others.. and they will all get it right sometimes. I roll my eyes and devalue the opinion of people that see a company as all wonderful or all bad. But again, thats my opinion of their opinion.
The key here or anywhere else is to not attack people personally and not to take things personal. Everything here is opinion. No ones opinion is more valid. People are not evil or stupid if they don't agree with you. And we all have to have humility in knowing that maybe it's our own opinion that is flawed at times. My posts were needlessly deleted ...Comment
