You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return... -
The price point on those have allot to do with the volume being manufactured. Hell, Mego sold 2.5 million Action Jacksons in 1972 alone. Since the retro line has started back, have they even approached that number if we took every company and totaled it together ? I doubt that total would even reach a quarter of that 1972 number. But I'm confident Mattel is making a boat load more than 3,000 of these, which seems to be the standard number most smaller companies allude to when talking about order size. So the price comparison is really apples and oranges. Now once we get into the price increases from their own base of operation, then we have a different story. I too am stinging from the $30 price tag on some of their stuff. The only pieces I am pre-ordering are those not impacted by that increase. Anything else I'll grab in the secondary market, because that price point will get beat. I enjoy when companies like FTC make a ton of product I like, but sometimes you need to reward that loyalty by keeping a ceiling on costs.Comment

Plus when you own the company in China, you can pass prototypes back and forth as many times as you want to get exactly the look you want. And you have the history with the manufacturers so they know exactly what you want to begin with. So head sizing isn't a problem.

I followed a small company, Palisades Toys. They made incredible Muppets action figures as well as the retro Micronauts. The detail was perfection. They demanded it. The prototypes went back and forth to be tweaked. There was great pride to get it right and not to release junk
Again, I'm more interested in a great product. My initial post was regarding female megos from FTC... Daisy duke, Wonder Woman etc. These look like junk. I used this new Mattel line as an example of quality. I get it, FTC has to recoup its license investments but if quality is overlooked I for one will move onComment

These are cute for little kids to enjoy but I wish they would stick to the original costumes instead. It is possible to create fun dolls in their original costumes and looks. I just finished restoring an old Mego Lynda Carter doll myself....Wonder Megowoman.jpgwonder woman mego remego.jpgComment

The Palisades Micronauts line had numerous quality problems due to the factory screwing them over: the clear pieces were brittle and broke in the package, the insides of the figures would melt and lock the articulation, they painted pieces that were made with the wrong color plastic. I think the problems with their factory led to Palisades going out of business. So perhaps not the best counter example.Comment

All of my Palisades Micronauts fell apart years ago. Fused, cracked and melted joints and not to mention the weak magnets on figures like Karza and Force Commander. The quality was absolutely horrendous. You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Personally, I like the idea of the 6" actual action figures; companies haven't really tried that since the 80's (She-Ra, Golden Girl). When Power Rangers first came out, the girls were buying the rangers figures just like the boys. Bandai even made some 12" fashion dolls of the female rangers which sat and collected dust; the girls still wanted the real things to play alongside the boys. The concept is worn out (Monster High wasn't original to begin with, and this is that idea re-dubbed with costumes), but it has some potential to catch on with the girls and maybe bring Mattel out of the 1950's as far as attitudes toward girl and boy toys are concerned.Comment
