Up Close: Super Friends Robin and Samurai

We were delayed on this photo review due to the holidays (and our friends at Canada customs) but these figures are too interesting not to discuss.

The Super Friends toy line by Figures Toy Company is one of the most anticipated lines of 2015 and they’re delivery in December meant many 70s kids got some major wish fulfillment in the plastic form of something many of us have pined for since “Challenge of the Super Friends” first aired.

So we bring our first of a two part photo review, this one covering Robin and Samurai, one half of wave one. Expect a follow up review of Superman and Apache Chief in the coming days.

So, as with all of our “Mego Museum Up Close” features, we let the pictures do the talking.

Like what you see? You can order them at our Sponsor Entertainment Earth right now.

Great photos, the colors are nice and vibrant on these and reflect the cartoon look very well. Sculpts and costumes are good also, and I love the new style gloves used on Robin, I 'd like to see this style used on all the heroes going forward. As much as I love the oven mitts on the originals, those mitts were on the way out even when Mego was still producing figures, nice to see a step forward. I hope to get a set of these Super Friends soon, and can't wait to see the next wave!

Nice shots Brian! This is easily my favorite series in the FTC line up for quite some time. The Superfriends are just the very essence of childhood memories. So these figures are undeniably fun because FTC was wise enough not to repurpose heads and instead sculpt these to really look like the show. And I'm very pleased with the detail to the costumes as well. Robin is really a stand out for me. I LOVE the black inner lining of the cape. That really gives him a nice contrast in colors that is eye popping. Easily my favorite Robin figure from ANY series (including Mego). Loving the prototype shots of Aquaman (a personal favorite) and can't wait to see how they do the Flash for this line. I'll be following this series closely all year.

Another victim of "GIANT Head" syndrome. However...I will buy him because I like the costume and will customizing him, once I find a suitable head to make a Neal Adams style Robin.

Thanks, I'm against adding any sort of slant to a review, as I think decent pictures help you decide more than anyone's personal bias but I freaking love these especially Robin. I was kind of apprehensive from the initial photos but once in hand, it just works so incredibly well.

And this is weird but Robin's shoes blew my mind, they could have reused some classic mego parts but they didn't, it's all new and in vivid colour. This is my favourite thing they've done.

The pictures look great. I'll still hold off on Robin until I see how Batman looks. But that's just me.

It wasn't really clear how Robin's collar rested on his cape from the pictures. Can anyone post a shot showing how the collar looks from above?

are the boots the plug in type like 66 Batman or slip on? I really prefer the look of the plug on ones and if these aren't like that, they achieved the same look.

I got Apache Chief and Samurai, but I was not planning on getting Robin or Sups. Now, I gotta admit, I want Robin! His head looks a lot better in these pics than the early pics did.

They are slip on, made of a rubbery material.

I held out on these for fear I may get a set for Christmas, but since Santa didn't bring them, I REALLY need to get them. Especially Robin!

Got my set of wave 1 today and I think they're wonderful. Two odd things though - my Supes has the dreaded loose neck syndrome thing (and I mean bad), which I think I can fix, and my Samuri has his shorts sewn to the top backwards so that the detail work is now on his butt. No big deal as I love 'em as-is, but I did want to just mention it. Can't wait for series 2!

Great pics. Really shows off how great these figs are up close. Looking forward to seeing Supe and A.C. as well.
