Aquaman VS. The Great White Shark

I know they are strongly considering it. If they do go into production it will be for the purposes of display, not bathtub play. Their goal is to make an affordable piece that's worthy of going on a collector's shelf that looks just as good loose as MIB. It will be a nod to the original, similar looking but by no means an exact repro.
My personal opinion is that if I had to choose, I'd prefer vehicles over a shark set. But if it's not an either/or situation I'm a buyer for both.Comment

It will be interesting to see the final product. To this day I still do not have anything DC from FTC. My authentic MEGO collection could never be dishonored by placing a FTC figure next to it. However, I would love to own this set but I am on the fence out it being re-produced. I could never afford the real thing, but I can afford FTC's.Seriously, I think the new figures ape the old well enough to mix and match; I plan to mix together the Diamond 8" figures with some of the original Marvel Megos I've been able to reassemble when they come out, and I'm going to try to get an Isis reassembled to go with the FTC figures. But to each their own tastes.

Diorama/Playsets. Just hire the boss, license his work and replicate to meet factory production. If you're going to make the Superfriends, you need a Hall Of Justice.Comment

I can't wait for it. There's so few originals out there that a repro isn't going to affect their value much...besides, it's not like any originals are changing hands anyway. They already reside in permanent collections.
Of course every time a rare toy is reproduced there are always a handful of rich, elitist collectors bemoaning about their "investment".
To them I say...you wanna invest in something? Buy stocks.
First the Teen Titans...next up, Circle Suit Spidey...now the Great White Shark? It's great that Mego fans who aren't loaded can now enjoy these classic toys.
No toy company owes you investment protection. It makes no sense for a company to protect the resale value of something they didn't produce.Last edited by Toy Timelord; Sep 18, '14, 11:49 AM.Comment

I think $75 is a very optimistic price point for the Shark, but I hope I'm wrong. I'd like to see it made. It would be really risky proposition. Only a percentage of those buying figures would get it, which means a low run, which equals a higher price point, which equals a tougher sale.
I wonder what the Jaws license would cost. The shark Brody, Quint and Hooper would be cool in 8 inch format.Last edited by madmarva; Sep 18, '14, 11:59 AM.Comment

Its not every day you get a Fishboy and Shark display piece.
Again IMO only. I would love them to do everything but I understand some of this stuff will cost to much money to produce.
If they did everything it would be great - so there would be something for everyone.
I'm lucky enough to own all the original playsets, and vehicles. Thats why I would love this shark set. It is 1 piece I do not own.
I would also be down for a batlab if they remade it, and batcycle - for the kids to actually play with them. So lets hope they make as much as they can - so everyone can get something that they like and hope its not an either or type of situation."Where Does He Get Those Wonderful Toys?"Comment

collect it cause you like it - not because of what you think it might be worth some day.
If there was a presale today - I would have reserved it already"Where Does He Get Those Wonderful Toys?"Comment

but once the mold / molds are made it should be fairly cheap to produce, with less time involved
the figures are all pieced together by hand, the suits are all hand sewed and the heads are all hand painted
I would think labor wise it would be much faster and cheaper to put the shark together than it is to put a figure together (again if it is a non working shark)
I agree on a shorter run but they could easy sell 500 of these at 75 a clip
correct me if I'm wrong - but about 25 people bought chads for about 250.00 and it was only offered here
had that been offered else where how many more orders do you think he could have had? if it was open to everyone across the world on the internet?
World wide mego fans would grab this in a hurry at the right price point.
I'm not saying make 10,000 of them off the bat - but I would think 500-1000 piece run should not really be an issue to sell (World Wide) for the first run"Where Does He Get Those Wonderful Toys?"Comment

sorry to comment so much on 1 post - but if there ever was a piece that would sell itself - It would be this one.
IMO this is a no brainer. Even people who do not buy the CTV remake figures - would still be all over this just due to the fact of how Awesome and rare it is."Where Does He Get Those Wonderful Toys?"Comment

^^^ HAPPY Birthday ScottA !!!!! Hope you have a great B-Day!
*TRUE MEGO Memory BURNED into my toddler memory & never forgotten:
*I was in Rite-Aid on Genesee St. in Utica, NY sometime in the late 70s & my mother was shopping. I remember being in the Toy section (per usual) & although I was maybe 3 years old, I walked up to the counter & reached up to put the toy on the counter to pay (my mother had no idea I was trying to buy myself a toy). I remember standing on my tippy toes & being just barely able to push the Mego AQUAMAN vs. The GREAT WHITE SHARK box set up on the counter. I could not see the cashier at all, I just heard her disembodied voice say the price. I remember the price tag said $5 so I reached in my pocket to take out my whole life's savings. I reached up on my tippy toes again & proudly placed my NICHOL on the counter, only to hear the cashier says "Sorry honey this isn't enough.". I almost cried because I wanted it so badly. But I didn't cry & my mother rushed over & said I couldn't have it. (My older brother & I had so many mego toys + star wars that it wasn't cruel by any means). She put it back. Funny thing is I KNOW we either had this SET b4 this incident or after, as I recall my brother letting me take the shark & aquaman (sans his lost oven mitts) in the tub quite a few times. So he ended up getting it after that day, or had it b4 then, & like all our mego dolls it was already broken in pieces from rampant & constant playing. So all that amounts to this:
*Since that day in Rite Aid in late 1970's Utica NY when I tried to buy myself a $5 Mego AQUAMAN vs The GREAT WHITE SHARK box set w/ a NICHOL......I've ALWAYS DREAMED of getting 1! I really hope FTC does this!
*If FTC did Mego CAH re-do's....I could get my favorite childhood Rite-Aid haul.....WONDER WOMAN in her INVISIBLE PLANE Exploding Tower Playset! That INVISIBLE Plane w/ ugly li'l CAH WONDY would make this invisible lad's tower explode!.....In pure joy!
*As for this set, I'm hoping it's close to $50 (maybe $60) if it is 1 solid unmoving piece! ----So I can BUY x2 = x1 MIB & x1 to play w/ my nephews! They would love that set! I know a certain member (The PLAYER) kind of hints that his FTC figures do not really need to be durable or safe because HIS aren't for PLAY, but for display. *For me, these FTC re-megos are WAY MORE about making many fun memories w/ my 2 nephews, my niece & someday soon my own grandchildren! That's what it's about for me, & I think that is a far better reason to collect TOYS than any other. I buy x2 or x3 of each because I like a MIB to be packed away in case (or when) the FTC re-mego will break from SUPER GENTLE play. I also buy multiples to support FTC making more future products. BIG HEADS will curb my buying practices to x1 or ZERO of each afflicted w/ super BIG HEADS unfortunately!
*I want FTC to give me toys for years & years to play w/ my nephews, niece & grandchildren JUST like my brother, sister & father did w/ me! Happy childhood memories are to be made....if FTC can get QC under control.....I'll continue spend loyally!Last edited by invisiblelad; Sep 18, '14, 2:09 PM.Comment

These are things we don't know and can only guess at and that and dozens of other things affect cost.
The fact that FTC is considering it means it is doable, but again it might be higher or possibly lower than $75.Comment

^ I agree, FTC can do 100 or 200 of each 2-pack because they already have the figures produced in the higher numbers.....just the different cardbacks are needed. FTC can do 500 or 600 of each BATMAN 66 exclusive since it's the costumes, accessories & cardbacks that are different, but they have the base figures they are using in higher quantities. I shudder to think of the price of AQUAMAN vs SHARK if only $500 are made! But I hope they make them in numbers high enough to have a reasonable/affordable price, make FTC profit so they'll consider future products like this, & enough to satisfy customers w/out leaving too many sitting around unsold. FTC definitely needs to have the perfect formula for these types of endeavors. Here's to hoping they do this & I can afford 1 or especially 2 of these!Comment
