MOTU Classics from Comic Con. Mattel finally did the characters justice.

Merman is especially dead on to his original card art.

2008 SDCC Day 3: MOTU Merman and Zodiac Figure Images Added - MOTU - ToyNewsI.com

The depressing thing is, why the hell didn’t they do it right the first time instead of releasing those god awful anime designed figures!? It also sucks they will be sold only once per month and online only at $20 a pop.

MOTU was probably my favorite childhood toy line (after Mego of course). I loved those toys but I absolutely loathed (and I mean loathed) the re-imagined anime MOTU cartoon and toys from 2002. So I have mixed feelings on the new Classics line.

Again, it boggles the mind why the hell just do it like this in 2002. Such wasted potential. Now the brand is nearly dead and the figures are online only. I honestly can’t see the line lasting long. I hope at least we get the original first eight figures redone.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

I am a bit distracted right now and can't write a "full post"
But this is just flabbergasting stuff. Those figures are out of a MOTU fan's dream.
Even if the line only encompasses the opriginal 6 or so---it'd still be a blessing.
I hope others chime in on this weirdly incredible news.

      Wow.

My oldest and I actually quite liked the 2002 Heman. I thought they looked great, especially Skeletor. The cartoon was fun. We watched every e[isode. My wife, who is 3 years younger than me, loved Heman when she was younger and even she liked the new toys and cartoon.

These Classics have a great feel of the old toys but updated with better articulation.. Looks like a real winner.

        I think they look Great.
But there was nothing wrong with the He-man figures from 2002. & That Cartoon Rocked. What Ultimatly did that line in,.. was all the He-man & Skeletors,.. then when you went to the Store,.. thats All you Saw. The 4 Horsemen Mini Statues from Neca,.. continuing that Line are Fantastic. I have the SDCC Exclusive from Last yr,.. the He-man & Hope to get King GreySkull from this Yr.
... The Original Knight ..., Often Imitated, However Never Duplicated. The 1st Knight in Customs.

These do look fantastic, but I'm not flipping out over the marketing plan. Is this a test maybe, like Hasbro did with the 3 3/4" Joes...if they sell well, retailer interest will pique, and we'll see these on the shelves at TRU??

Mattel thinks that since the line tanked at retail, they will target the older geek collector market instead. They are so thick they don't get that it was the endless variants that killed it. Its the same reason that JLU is dying a slow death, all I ever see is Superman and or Batman at retail. Sure they showed tons of new characters at SDCC, but will we ever see them anywhere but ebay?
