Rumor: Mcfarlane toys has the TMNT license.

    Didn't see that coming.

A distributor in Canada has listed a ton of new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles products coming in July 2023. Here is the kicker though, the company they say the

Playmates has been pretty lazy with the brand the last several years but I still don't think McFarlane toys is a great fit for a mass market kid's line.

Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

Is it a kid's license really? I mean sure there could be a kid's line section like McFarlane is doing with DC and Batman. Note the TMNT generation started about 10 years behind us which puts their collector base solidly in the 30s and 40s range.

Yes, Playmates (and now McFarlane) TMNT mass market cartoon and movie lines have always been aimed at kids. NECA has been doing the collector line.

This line looks to be from the upcoming TMNT movie TMNT Mutant Mayhem which is an update to the TMNT franchise after Rise of the TMNT.

I see now I should have been even more specific and asked if it was an Only For Kids line. What I thought was obvious was that at least half of my imagined customer base for the Turtles ...technically aren't they tortoises? ... was probably the adult collector which is the demographic the Turtles started out in. I know there have been some more recent kid friendly Turtles media and that the TMNT much like Batman have a wide audience split probably evenly between child and adult consumers with very distinct product lines such as Todd already produces for Batman.

It's not a rumor, McFarlane probably has the license in some capacity.

That said, it doesn't mean that Playmates doesn't have the license. You can almost guarantee they do.

The TMNT pie is split 900 ways these days.
