Recent Star Wars Figures Help Request: The Best Ones????

Okay---I recently decided I'm going to start collecting my favorite characters
from the original trilogy (and maybe a few from the new) in 3 3/4 inch scale.

Thing is...as you know...there's billions of figures that've been
made since the 90s---and it makes this hard for a virtual newbie.

The plus side is that only RECENTLY has articulation been improved
---so that helps narrow down the "better" figures that are out there, right?

I'll confess... I made an impulse buy recently---ALL what are called "SAGA"
figures----an ALDERAAN HAN, DEATH STAR LEIA, TATOOINE LUKE
    and BESPIN VADER

---probably not the best choices for those characters being that from newer
research I NOW see that the "OTC" figures are actually the "better" figures
according to fan collectors...and I hear that some of them are actually going
to be rereleased this year in some kind of wave that fans have voted on.

So my main question is besides the HAN, LEIA, STORMTROOPER, FETT,
LANDO from the OTC collection---just WHAT are the cooler figures out
there to nab??? (specifically from the original trilogy)

One last thing---I'm sure collectors can see what I'm getting with my post
here even if I didn't directly say it---more or less---what are the coolest
figures of the 3 and 3/34s out there---and what are your thoughts
    about the stuff in general.

It's high time I kinda figured out what's going on here before I buy
too many figures that I regret because there is a newer, better fig
with better articulation that I'll want instead.

    Thank you!

501st stormtrooper is very nice...it's the only one I've bought for years...has a nice banner with it.
ENGLISH AND DAMN PROUD OF IT British by birth....English by the grace of God. Yes Jamie...it is big isn't it....

Thanks for the advice Bo8a---actually the OTC STORMTROOPER is one of the
best reviewed and I heard that it's going to be rereleased this year in the "voting wave"
      I mentioned-called "Saga COLLECTION" I believe--the "SAGA" (I believe) are the ones
I bought---it gets confusing with all the line name changes!

Also, the banner sounds cool for those looking for such things---actually,
I'm primarily interested in what figures have the best articulation---as well
as better likenesses to a certain extent.

You should definitely consider getting the VOTC figures which are the ones on the repro vintage style cardbacks. The figures look great and classic cardbacks are are a very nice bonus. Odds are you'll have to resort to ebay to find them but based on what I've seen they sell pretty cheap.

          Thanks Speed

Alot of those VOTC figures have gotten great reviews and look great
from what I've seen in pics on the Net.

I'm not exactly sure how I'll end up with 'em but I'm psyched.

My renewed interest in SW figs was inspired by the recent
INDY JONES figs in the same scale---time to revisit the SW figs
and hope they look/pose better than the older ones AND I hope I don't
get too sucked in. I'm really only looking to buy about 15 different
characters (but I already screwed up with the SAGA figs I bought that
          I mentioned above^^^!)

to be honest, with so many figures coming out and the same ones coming out year after year(it does get confusing), and it got way out of control for me to want to even collect them anymore. but..on the other hand...my 3 favorite characters to get are the biker scout, emporer's royal guard(red) and boba fett....can't go wrong with fett...
i agree with speedy, go for the vintage looking ones, kinda cool and nostalgic...
you know, you can get so and so this year(who may be the best out there right now)..but wait a year and they will re release the same one with new packaging or better sculpting...so, it's always going to be a gamble with this stuff. my advice, get who you like...cant go wrong with that.

yea...when the new prequels came out, we only wanted certain ones too...but over the years, we ended up with a couple hundred or so. lol. eventually sold them all of...everything..figures, old ones(from 90's), new ones, vehicles, ships, all of it. just got out of hand and couldnt keep up with what was coming out.

In the end this is solid advice--as---simply if I see another I might like better---
                I'll just replace/upgrade it----I still feel like a chump for buying a
FLIGHT TO ALDERAAN HAN when the VOTC one is obviously the better figure--

-the plus side is I only paid about $4 for the figure and the VOTC is harder
                to get on the cheap

it's all part of lucas' plan, to take over the world. i get tired of seeing the same characters came out...he needs to work on some that have never been released(like the twin gals from the cantina scene, hanging out with han, in ANH)....stuff like that. not another han or luke(although, i do get why he does the main ones over and over)....

I have no reason to complain about Lucas spider----

Lucas and I have something in common
Lucas is trying to be a smart salesman/businessman by making certain
                    manufacturing/liscencing decisions---
just like I'm trying to make smart purchases by asking around in this thread

                    I'm quite happy with that.

Although I WILL happilly admit I'd love to see new characters from the
                    original trilogy made too

The New Battle Damaged DarthVader from the New upcomming video Game "Force" Unleashed is Pretty darn cool imo. Highly detailed.

I also liked the 3 packs New Evolutions figures.

                      Vader's secret Apprentice 3 pack
                      The Sith Legacy 3 Pack
& The 3 Pack Fett Legacy. It comes with New Sculpts of Boba Fett, Jango Fett & The New Mandalore figure from Knights of the Old Republic .

These IMO,.. are some of the Very best Star Wars figures in a Long time. Great Stuff.

                          Hmmmm....

Collecting Star Wars figs is kind of a mixed bag. There are SOOOOO MANY figures out there, and so many versions of each character it's tough to sort through. I'd look up some websites, see pics of all the different versions and decide which version of each character appeals most to you. That's how I did it. (I DON'T need ten different Darth Vaders, all in slight variants of the black armour.)

....Or maybe you're really into Darth and want to build an army. That's cool too; and you CERTAINLY have the opportunity to do so nowadays....

                          Don C.

i agree with don. there are so many figures out lately(hundreds within the last few years), that it makes it really tough for someone who is new and wanting to buy the "best" stuff out there..it does get overwhelming really easy. like i said and others too...just get what you like, that's probably the best advice that anyone can give ya..i tended to stay away from droids when we collected...my wife got the jedi ladies and reg. ladies(leia, etc)...so, it's pretty much just personal opinion or choice as to what you really want..you know? when the new g i joes came out last year or so, i was sooo tempted to start buying a few of them. but my thought wasif i get one or two, i would eventually be pulled back in and start wanting them all and i just dont have the money or even the space to do that again, lol. anywho..good luck with your quest..and may the force be with you...ha..didnt see that one comin'..did ya?

The fact that there are soooooo many nowadays has made me give up on Star Wars figures....I have most figures right up to the release of Phantom menace then picked up any cheap ones I could find and any I really liked...at least with the original figures there was a finite number of them....and once you'd got em you'd got em...lol...same with megos....also now with the Who figures out I can't really buy 2 lines of neverending sets...lol.
Choose what you think are the cool ones ...the ones that appeal to you ...and pick others up when the prices drop...build an army of stormies and have fun...lol
