Local FYE going out of business. DEALS.

My local FYE is closing due mostly to mall management shenanigans.

Unfortunate.

BUT, I made out like a fool the last few trips.

Today's was surprising.

All clearance was buy-one-get-three-free, so I dug deep and asked for a bunch of price checks...
I walked out with all these for around $75


I almost feel bad for NECA, I don't know the last time I paid anything over clearance prices for anything they've released.

Check your local stores and see if they're as bad at price changes as mine is/was.

Great for you, but I hate to hear of brick and mortar stores that sell physical media and pop culture products going out of business, even if they aren't mom & pop owned stores, it's sad to see them go.

I sure do miss Media Play from the '90s. That place was the best.

yeah, until they jacked up their prices so much. Our MP was in one mall, and the mall right next to it had a Best Buy. the prices at MP were 25% higher so I was not surprised when they went under

Sadly, the ridiculous rents charged for mall space necessitates the higher retail pricing at FYE, Media Play, and my long-gone favorite, Suncoast Video.

I'm afraid online buying is driving down the viability of so many of these stores. In the 70's and 80's stores had to compete only with their neighborhood rivals. Now it's the world. Even powerhouses like Walmart are closing stores and becoming more like K-Mart because they no longer invest in their people nor their appearance. I did some market research on FYE after I read this thread though. Nationwide they are doing good business. Of course they are not all in malls either so that likely plays a big role. Plus they have an online presence as well which might help offset sluggish sales in some of those under-performing shops. But I love going into those stores. It's one of the few places left that actually sales things in my hobby. Most of those shops have long closed down.

I like FYE for the fact that they're one of the last places that does this sort of stuff brick-and-mortar, but I've never been to one anywhere in the country that didn't look like it was closing. There's only one left in the state, and I'm in constant fear that I'll learn it shut down.
