    MOTU Ultimate from Super 7

I was always tempted by the MOTU Classics, but the subscription, and digital river and all that mess kept me from diving in. These look like a nice combination of various releases from Mattel. Are there any totally new pieces here?

I haven't been into He-Man since that year the line was released. In saying that, this He-Man looks pretty darn cool.

Seems to me a cheap way to make money for super7 all these have been released before all they have done is bundle all of Matty's releases in one box. I have to say ordered loads of MOUTC stuff to the uk and never had any issues with them

Zero new parts in those. Just repaints. Faker getting a toy head repaint is pretty cool though. But I never really did care for the mini comic colors for Ram Man.

I do think their retro card backs are awesome.

I'm waiting to see what's happening with the Filmation line.

You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

If that's all this is, then it should go pretty deep since all the tooling is done. The MOTU fans want some really obscure characters released, but those seemed to have done more damage to Matty's MOTUC sales than helped. The last Filmation stuff looked really sharp.

MOTUC was for me the best line in the past several years. They are incredibly designed and durable. This is the last big MOTUC Christmas hurrah for my kids. The SDCC 12inch She-Ra is amazing. It's the quality we've dreamed about for a Mego.

I read an interview somewhere...the 4H are sculpting new figures for the Filmation line for sure. Mondo also has some pretty amazing looking 12" MOTU figures coming out too.

It's weird they're just releasing old figures. I'd like to get them, but most likely won't. I have to always remind myself that I focus on mainly collecting Lego and Mego scale toys for the most part. And little rubber guys. I did buy all the MOTUSCLE. I do love the way the Four Horseman designed these figures. I'll have to remain content with my MOTU originals and just be envious looking at pictures. (Well, I don't so much as have my childhood MOTU figures anymore because those were sold at yard sales as a child, but I do have ALL the Mattel reissues of the originals, which I'm sad to say they didn't continue as Mattel turned their attention to the 2x line.)

I actually expect S7 to be a lot more successful than Matty has been with the line. They probably have less capital overall to work with when it comes to making new figures, but they also don't want to tie people down to subscriptions for dozens of figures when you may only want one or two. Mattel started doing ridiculous things like making popular vintage characters that would complete people's collections, very hard to get unless you were a member of the sub, which meant you were forced to get a half dozen She-Ra characters you never wanted. It was absurd.

And Mattel refused to re-release characters. They did some very early re-releases, but as usual used a wonky model where they needed to sell 5 billion of them for it to be considered profitable. And then called the re-releases failures because they didn't sell 5 billion in a week. Mattel is just a ridiculous company in a lot of ways.

S7 is going to offer up re-releases of requested characters, improved versions of characters and new characters. All without forcing you to commit to a subscription plan that locks you into hundreds of dollars for crap you don't want. Hell, they're even taking pre-orders, something Mattel could NEVER do in the many years MattyCollector ran.

They were taking pre-orders at their online store. Unfortunately the pre-orders are over for the MOTUC figures but they are supposed to have a limited number for sale once they are manufactured.

I agree the sub issue got out of hand and needlessly complicated. When I saw the amount of stock left for certain figures, I was left wondering why Matty thought those were a good idea to go with.

Mattel's best approach would have been to scrap the vast majority of New Adventure characters first and make two designer lines - Filmation and Preternia/Alcala mini-comic. FH could have then remade characters to fit Alcala or vice-versa. Instead, we got homogenized looks a lot of people sat out from buying.

DC Superhero Girls has been a big success for Mattel but the delay between new character product is slowing interest right when they hit their stride. POP could have supplemented that with a small in-store footprint but a big online exclusive assortment.

She-Ra and the Horde are part of MOTU and have a large fanbase. It makes sense they were made.

It did irk me that they messed up the She-Ra figure. The first She-Ra figure can't sit or fit on Swiftwind. So they then made Bubble Power She-ra which you had to combine with the first She-Ra so you could get a basic She-Ra that could actually ride Swiftwind. But even after all that you still didn't end up with a completely cartoon accurate or toy accurate version of She-Ra. On the bright side, the Adora figure was really nice.

What I, personally, didn't like was all the stuff like Mo-Larr and the Mighty Spector. I also didn't like getting stuck with the expensive Snakemen and Eternian Guards two packs and giants.

I can't believe I forgot to mention that stupid yellow Gorilla, Gygor. There's a reason a lot of that stuff never made it past the prototype stage in the 80s. It was bad then and an even worse idea now.
