My latest model...The Ghost of Frankenstein WIP

This is a huge 1/3 scale kit of Lon Chaney Jr. as the monster from Ghost of Frankenstein. Chaney was the first actor to play the monster after Karloff, and Jack Pierce did his best to replicate the iconic makeup on Chaney's face. He even painted on the "hollow" right cheek where Karloff removed his dental bridge.

My paint job is meant to capture the on screen look of the actor in greasepaint. Notice the large pores in Chaney's skin which stop where the rubber forehead appliance starts.

Very nice...both the sculpt AND the paints! Good job on the monster's "beauty mark" or mole.

Ghost of Frankenstein is underrated. I like it, despite it's rather strange plot point where the monster befriends a little girl...and then wants her brain in his body!

Totally agree...I popped the DVD in and watched the entire film before I got started painting to make some reference notes. I hadn't seen it in several years...Castle Frankenstein and it's courtyard at the beginning is really impressive and oddly enough seems to be an all new set.
Ygor's scenes are all fantastic, and the brain swap at the end is why Lugosi got to play the monster next in Frankenstein Meets the Wolfman. By then it was explained that the monster had taken on Ygor's features and was still blind, but all references to that as well as Lugosi's lines were cut.
Still, Ghost is a great film. An interesting bit of trivia...on one of the original posters, the monster is bright PINK! File that one in the "What the heck were they thinking?" dept!

I thoroughly love this movie and adore your paint apps here. AWESOME! I use to be afraid the monster would come through the wall when i was a child after I saw him pulled out in this film. Great moments!

              Great job!
I love all the Frankenstein sequels. "Son" is probably my favourite.

Yeah, that's...odd. And that's a really bad shot of Chaney as the Monster. He just looks fat there. It's an unflattering angle. In other shots, he looks quite powerful, as your model conveys.

Ghost of Frankenstein is my favorite of the Franky movies, and your sculpt and pant work is off the charts amazing,
have you already made a Chaney Wolfman and Mummy? thought I had seen them before?

I only painted this piece...the sculptor is the unbelievably talented Mark Van Tine. I haven't done a Chaney Wolfman yet, but I did complete the Aurora Mummy, which is based on Chaney. I've pretty much decided going forward all my classic monster kits will be in done in silver screen style...I just love the look and trying to figure out what colors to paint some of this stuff is a real pain...LOL.

I still haven't finished the 1/2 scale Werewolf of London I was working on. I just can't decide what colors to use on his scarf and coat. Nothing I've tried looks right.

^Maroon scarf, olive/brown coat. Just my "costumers" opinion, based on how you've painted the WOL head.

I think you're Chaney Monster looks great, though I've never really liked any interpretation besides Karloff's. I usually watch "Ghost" for Ygor.
