And I don't have these kits yet. The more I think about this, the more it angers me. And in a freaking landfill no less. They must be pretty poor businessmen if they don't realize plastic is recyclable.WANTED: Dick Grayson SI trousers; gray AJ Mustang horse; vintage RC Batman (Bruce Wayne) head; minty Wolfman tights; mint Black Knight sword; minty Launcelot boots; Lion Rock (pale) Dracula & Mummy heads; Lion Rock Franky squared boots; Wayne Foundation blue furniture; Flash Gordon/Ming (10") unbroken holsters; CHiPs gloved arms; POTA T2 tan body; CTVT/vintage Friar Tuck robes, BBP TZ Burgess Meredith glasses.Comment

You can hone a lot of skills and encourage creativity with model kits. This is so sad.WANTED: Dick Grayson SI trousers; gray AJ Mustang horse; vintage RC Batman (Bruce Wayne) head; minty Wolfman tights; mint Black Knight sword; minty Launcelot boots; Lion Rock (pale) Dracula & Mummy heads; Lion Rock Franky squared boots; Wayne Foundation blue furniture; Flash Gordon/Ming (10") unbroken holsters; CHiPs gloved arms; POTA T2 tan body; CTVT/vintage Friar Tuck robes, BBP TZ Burgess Meredith glasses.Comment

There are a couple of ways get a business deduction from your unsold inventory. You can donate your inventory to charity, sell it to a company that specializes in obsolete or overstocked merch, or destroy it.
I'm assuming they felt destroying the inventory would be the cleanest way to keep records of the merchandise value given that the IRS will likely scrutinize their claim. It's possible these weren't complete or they were damaged in some way, who knows? Either way, this is done for tax purposes.
It would also explain why they would take before photos in the first place.Last edited by CrimsonGhost; Aug 14, '16, 11:37 AM.Expectation is the death of discovery.Comment

Well, I work in a long-term care facility and we frequently get donations of model kits for veterans and other residents. That would have been a more laudable option IMO.WANTED: Dick Grayson SI trousers; gray AJ Mustang horse; vintage RC Batman (Bruce Wayne) head; minty Wolfman tights; mint Black Knight sword; minty Launcelot boots; Lion Rock (pale) Dracula & Mummy heads; Lion Rock Franky squared boots; Wayne Foundation blue furniture; Flash Gordon/Ming (10") unbroken holsters; CHiPs gloved arms; POTA T2 tan body; CTVT/vintage Friar Tuck robes, BBP TZ Burgess Meredith glasses.Comment

Are those from companies that are still in business or going out of business? Just curious, I'm wondering if that could be a difference in why destroying inventory is a better decision when going out of business.Expectation is the death of discovery.Comment

That reminds me of what an offshoot of Milton Bradley called "Girls World" did in the 70s. They made "Enchanting Emerald The Witch" doll in 1972. (I have my original). When the dolls and outfits weren't selling as well as they hoped, they scrapped them. They didn't donate them or try to sell them at cheaper prices, they simply trashed them. When I found this out a few years ago, I was as angry as you are. Some kids could have gotten a lot of enjoyment out of those dolls. As a result, an Emerald on the secondary market goes for ridiculously high prices now.
I hate seeing good toys wasted."Do you believe, you believe in magic?

Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic

You have no idea how much I agree with this thread's sentiment.
The only book I ever wrote/self-published was a book where the main hero has a life-altering change because he felt an extreme painful harrowing sadness watching the destruction of toys... toys that were destroyed, that the main character realized could have been otherwise appreciated.
Monarch Inc. should be ashamed of themselves.
Unforgivable....or, at the least: Unjustifiable."No. No no no no no no. You done got me talkin' politics. I didn't wanna'. Like I said y'all, I'm just happy to be alive. I think I'll scoot over here right by this winda', let this beautiful carriage rock me to sleep, and dream about how lucky I am." - Chris MannixComment
