Yes, but they went back and corrected the problem before releasing the figure.

That's how I feel about them. It's like how I've gotten a lot of Luke Skywalker figures in my life, but since the Hot Toys farmboy Luke came out, I'm like "Well, I'm done there. This is as good as it will get." I think this Kirk and Spock will be the same way. I've gotten Mego 3 3⁄4", 8" and 12" (as well as EMCE repros in 8") and Playmates 5", 9", and 12". After these come out, I'll be done with Kirk and Spock, I imagine.

EDIT: I forgot I also have the Funko ReAction 3 3⁄4" and Art Asylum 7" figures. How many of these guys do I need, anyway?

They addressed the problem, yes. However, the prototype was/is better than the finished production piece from a sculpt and painting standpoint (just take a look at the prototype shown on the packaging and their website to see the differences). Knowing how fickle our community tends to be, I wouldn't be surprised if these end up looking a little different off the production line... and that some people will lose their minds over that.

It also took about 18 months for the Firefly figure to come out (factory issues and all). I'm not confident they have all the kinks worked out yet.

^Prices aren't quite at Hot Toys level. Which is a good thing!

These are awesome, if you got the money and the room to display, I say go for it. I wonder if will see another
set of (2) later on, possibly Dr.McCoy and Scotty?

If the end product looks as good as this, I'm in. These are stunning.

Well, $100 is more reasonable, but I'll try to stretch my budget...
