Rumor: Mattel and Hasbro in talks for a merger.

Mattel and Hasbro to merge and form Devastator?

Wow, that would be something. Wouldn't that violate anti-trust laws?

I see where Hasbro has the Disney Princess doll license now, which has to be a HUGE chunk out of Mattel's wallet.

The article said that would be unlikely.

The article also said Hasbro fought a take over from Mattel decades ago. They must be really feeling the pinch from Lego to consider a merger now. Hasbro's action figure strength mixed with Mattel's fashion doll strength would make them a much stronger competitor to Lego.

^Sorry, I was lazy and didn't get to click the link. I normally don't post before doing so, but I was kind of shocked to see this.

It is also kind of weird to think how many classic toy lines would then be owned by one company.

How would this affect Mattel DC and Hasbro Marvel licenses?

No one is better than Mattel at making 12 inch articulated dolls at a mass market price. So, we could possibly see clothed 12 inch GI JOES and Star Wars figures return to toy stores if this actually happens .

The original Joe was better and cheap enough. I'd sure hate to see a classic Joe on a Ken body.

When economies stall, and that's been the forecast for this year, companies consolidate. That's why Marvel/Lucas sold to Disney.

I've felt this was going to be a big merger year, so while I'm surprised this came about so quick, expect other crazy shakeups.

My company does business with both of them, so I hope the merger doesn't happen. From a collector standpoint, Mattel rarely produces anything I like at all. Hasbro does sometimes.
