Hot Wheels and Hasbro X-Wings - why shorter engines?

I noticed on the Hot Wheels die-cast X-Wings for The Force Awakens that the lower pair of engines are shorter than the upper pair. I compared to the Hasbro Titanium X-Wings and see they have the same feature on theirs as well. Anyone have any idea why this is so?
