Geez, nothing like an outraged parent (or something like that) to get a toy recalled or banned.

Very similar to the LEGO "Jabba's Palace" controversy:

A quick check on Jabba's palace shows that it's selling for 2x the original retail price.

That, and the infamous Playmobil Airport Security Checkpoint. Seems like the most controversial toys are the ones that later go for the big bucks. Better get the pirate set while you can!

Jabba's Palace was never pulled from the shelves or recalled. It also wasn't retired from the line any quicker than any of the other sets. Discontinued Lego sets generally command a premium on the secondary market. The Lego Monster Fighters Haunted House now goes for over twice its retail price and had zero complaints or controversy.

Btw, I just happen to be reading a historical book about pirates. The "slave collar" Mommy Dearest picked out is something completely different. Ship Captains used to punish crew members by making them wear these and do their chores at the same time. These collars sometimes weighed up to 50 pounds! So this figure depicts a kind of naval discipline device.

Pretty soon, pirate toys will no longer have the skull and crossbones: they'll have a "free hugs" flag...
