so who do you think is dropping the ball here? Disney? Marvel? Hasbro? all the license holders? the big retailers like Walmart and Toys R Us? Consumers who have not traditionally bought "girl" action figures? Is there even a ball being dropped? Illuminati conspiracy to keep her from the hands of fans? Is it simply the forces of the free market? what do you think?

^Me neither. There've been more Hot Toys Black Widow figures than either Hawkeye or the Hulk. Black Widow got a Moebius model kit from Iron Man 2...Whiplash didn't.
Seems more like a writer trying to make a non-issue seem more than it really is.Comment

They don't mean collectibles, they mean actual toys for kids to play with, and it's near impossible to find.
True story: at least a year+ ago, me and my oldest ran across a deluxe one in a Wal-Mart, the package was banged up, and it was the only Widow. We went to check out, it didn't ring up. The manager was called over - and he said we couldn't buy it. All the other Avenger figures would scan with a price, but not Widow. And the guy had no idea why. Never saw one in the wild, again.
It's very odd, because the Marvel black series has Witch, Hellcat and Ms Marvel, and they're quite abundant. But even the standard issue Avengers stuff rarely has Widow in the groupings.
I think it's all about shelf-space. The JLA merch rarely has Wonder Woman in the team shots, so she's sold as a stand alone character. Widow could also be, but the costume doesn't lend itself to anything superheroic. It was more Emma Peel ripoff stuff. How Marvel never lost their nads in a UK trademark lawsuit is amazing.Comment

Come on, nobody wants a toy named after a spider! Yucky. Black widows are poisonous. Never play with a black widow.Comment

They made a famous covers Black Widow action figure. I have seen two of them so far where I go. I also know she was featured in a avengers lego set at one time too. Toys r us and walmart had this set. This story is hard to believe. I dont find her toys rare at all.Last edited by dee T.; May 15, '15, 1:53 PM.Clothes make the dollComment

My daughter is 5. She has never seen any of the movies with Black Widow in it... but she saw Black Widow in that Marvel Universe Live show, and she instantly became her favorite superhero. She loves to dress up all in black and "play Black Widow", doing karate kicks in the air.
If her favorite superhero was Captain America, she could walk into Target and choose among 10 or more different Cap toys. But we have never seen any Black Widow toys on the shelf. I have googled them, and found out that a few exist. I have tracked them down on eBay where they go for way over market price (if ever there was a sign there is consumer demand). I have seen the Hot Toys and other collector figures, which have no business going anywhere near a 5 year old.
I am sure there are reasons for that. Perhaps it is a smart business move. Maybe Black Widow product wouldn't sell well enough to justify a bigger presence. But I know that my Mego figures when I was a kid are a big reason I still love superheroes. So if they want to expand Marvel's base, it might be a smart investment to go after girls like my daughter.Comment
