I am really curious how Tonner has fared in the parallel universe of Doll Collectors. We're close to two generations out from the last time boys played with the dress-up concept with action figures unfortunately, and it doesn't look like it's coming back anytime soon. Dolls on the other hand are still generally a staple of the girls toy aisle. If the Tonner experiement works, maybe Lady Action will be the saviour of this line, and the Captain becomes her "Ken".

I do actual like these, Supergirl looks really sweet, but these are pricey at $99.00
wonder if they will add Batgirl in to the mix?

I like the spirit of that idea, but unless they're making more uniforms and accessories, it's a little off the beaten path with nothing on the shelf to help promote it.

Some Tonner dools look flat out ugly. Both of these look great. Supergirl especially.

Tonner is it's own beast though. It's not collected by the vast majority of the 1/6 community, because it's not 1/6. Tonner has a following, it's uh, unique, and all to itself. But I don't think CA has any real traction there.

I feel bad cause the CA Enterprises guys just seem to slap CA on anything and everything and I wish there was a more detailed plan and scale/type of toy they worked with.

THIS. This is what I cannot for the life of me figure out. They continually waste time, energy and money putting out every type of CA crap imaginable...hats, mugs, comics, coloring books, t-shirts, etc. that NOBODY WANTS instead of MORE COSTUME SETS which is the one thing EVERYBODY WANTS!!
I mean for crying out loud are these guys clueless.

I agree. When will they bring back Captain Action? They just put his logo on anything just to make money while the Captain Action figure and uniform, sets are nowhere to be seen.

They're trying to maintain brand recognition, which makes perfect sense if you're trying to keep the brand alive.

At this point I think Joe and Ed realize that Captain Action has to evolve past its original concept of being a generic buck for other characters if the brand wants to survive. That's why you're seeing the character offered in other action figure formats that don't use costume sets as part of the appeal.

And that's the problem...without the costume sets there is no appeal. As many people have pointed out dozens of times, CA is about the COSTUMES. Every TRU I went to, the Marvel costumes were long gone while piles of Arctic Captain Action figures sat collecting dust. They don't NEED to maintain brand recognition. The licensed costume sets carry their own brand recognition. Batman and Superman sell themselves.
Marvel is so hot right now you could dress a turd in an Iron Man suit and it would sell. Honestly, there are so many readily available 1:6 scale bodies out there, nobody needs the good captain. Well made silver age Marvel and DC costume sets would still sell like crazy because no one else is making complete figures from that era.

The response to what I've shown with the 4" line has been very positive and there's no costume sets for that.

The 4" CA line looks very good. I hope it gets produced.
I love CA on his own as well as with the uniforms, but I'd like 12" figures like Ideal made him, I don't like the Round 2 CA figure.

I don't know about the 4" capt. action but both the Toys r us in my area could not even sell the Spiderman , Capt. America and Thor costumes and variants which
clogged up the stores along with the figures for over a Year or two. I got so sick of seeing Spiderman and Capt A sets( both versions) that nobody was buying.
They finally seemed to get rid of them and redo the things before x-mas 2014

Captain Action is pretty much a nostalgic one-trick pony. If he "needs" to be something else, then he ceases to be "Captain Action". The property is recognized by those who appreciate him in those roots. Why continue to keep him in a 45 year old outfit with a logo (which denotes he changes) if the intent is to repurpose his origin? That look is vintage, not new age. Sorry. You can't have it both ways. CAE's biggest problem is they want him to be mass produced like new age toys, but there's simply no market for that.

Look at FTC? They make a mint selling directly to their base without the interference of brick/mortar setups. CAE needs to understand their audience. In my eyes, that's what they consistently miss. Quit overthinking the product and make what people want at volumes demand will satisfy. And I would not point to reactions to a concept product unproduced as proof of anything other than opinions are FREE. FTC has set the table for mass marketing popular licenses that ironically Captain Action should be enjoying. Unfortunately CAE spends too much time changing their message which is actually HURTS brand recognition. Anyone remember new Coke? Barely. Give us the classic. That's what sells... and it will sell here too if sold in proper volumes.
