I was paraphrasing a Louis CK quote.

Basically what I mean is if you've got nothing to complain about but a Chewbacca doll, you've got it pretty good. And if you think it could be better, then just like people who complain about their phones, make one yourself.

Be thankful you live in a country where this is your day's major conflict, as opposed to, say Having to fight insurgents and not knowing whether your head will be cut off for daring to be a woman who knows how to read.

Yeah, I see where you are coming from. But I think, at the price point, the complaints are valid. I get we are nitpicking plastic toys and to top that off, we are all adults. With the money hasbro has and what NECA has been doing in the 20 dollar price range, there is no reason we shouldn't be getting a buttload of accessories, better paint applications and a better overall product in the star wars black line. Look at obi wan! No robe? That's insane. The new Rambo has so many cool accessories and comes in a dollar cheaper.

I'll make whatever comparisons I like, thank you. If you don't like it, tough. Ignore me then, but don't bring world politics into it trying to justify your point.

I agree on the accessories. It's unconscionable that Han has so much, while Greedo, much like the people of Rwanda has so little.

Do I think Hasbro can do a more detailed sculpt? Absolutely. Do I think they can do it at this price point? Probably. Do I think there are other factors in play (such as safety) that play a part in why the sculpt may be softer? Possibly.

But the fact remains: this is the 6" Chewbacca we got. Like it or not, it'll be the only one for a while. If you want better, you have to complain to the right people (Hasbro, not guys on a toy board) and wait, or do it yourself. The Ape is better detailed, but it's also by a smaller, collector focused line. SWB is a collector line, but it's also playing to two audiences whereas the Ape is playing only to one.

I don't have the ape to compare, mostly because I'm not a huge fan of the license, so I can only speculate on the durability based on past NECA purchases, so in that regard, I stand corrected.

But the notion of what Chewbacca "Should" Look like is subjective. I think the figure is good. But no matter how fine the sculpt, unless they use real hair, there will always be a better looking representation. I hope the ROTJ version (if they get to him before overseas conflict drives up the price of oil to the point that we cannot afford them without cashing in our blood diamonds, or eating a diet of possibly dolphin unsafe tuna) fixes these issues, but I get the feeling it won't.

You did? Then who were you directing your "If you can do a better job, show us." comment towards?

Anybody who thinks they can actually do a better job.

Neca can't do a Better Chewbacca because Neca doesn't have the license. Hasbro might not be able to for legal reasons. (The shaggier the sculpt, the more pieces can be broken off and pose a choking hazard) Is the Ape a better sculpt? Depends on your personal opinion of what constitutes 'better'. is it more finely detailed in the hair? Certainly. But until we know the reason why Hasbro chose a less fine sculpt, we can only speculate.

I agree the Ape has a better sculpt but the ape comes from a company that is 100% Adult Collector Focused, while Chewie serves many masters.

People are going to compare, and it is natural to complain, but it is somewhat unfair to compare using a broad brush. Doesn't stop people from doing it, or taking firm stances on both sides.

I think a healthy debate is good, and despite some feather ruffling, I do respect you, Dwayne.

Please don't take anything I post personally, I poke around all sides of a discussion in order to foster speculation and detailed debate.

For what it's worth, I've heard Hasbro sculpts to scale where NECA sculpts two-up's. I think that has a lot to do with the difference in detail.
Expectation is the death of discovery.

I paid $20 for Jakks Pacific 20" Chewbacca and I like him! Best large scale Chewie I have ever owned! Just wish he had his laser crossbow! JP 20" Star Wars line is cool, gives more bang for buck than Hasbro 6" line!

If I had room for 'em I'd already have 20" Kanan and Ezra, since Hasbro is in no hurry to get the 3.75" ones out.

What does that have to do with sculpt you ask? Finer, more detailed hair may require material that isn't as safe or durable, so they had to choose a material that was safer, but didn't hold detail as well.
I HATE gluing my NECA toys back together when they break with very little play/impact.

So, yeah, I'm fine with SWBS being what they are.
