Greatest toy regret of my life...what's yours?

I love Masters of the Universe probably more than any other property ever, yet I don't own a single toy. At least not anymore.
Back in 2008 I started collecting Masters of the Universe Classics and it was the greatest joy of my adult collecting life. I was there right from the beginning, became a loyal subscriber, you name it. I was so dedicated to the line I bought three of everything they made to ensure I could get the best possible figures as far as paint jobs, factory defects etc, and my collection was PERFECT. I even fixed all the defective issues Mattel had, disassembling figures to fix backwards shoulders, switched limbs etc. Some people had broken Goddesses, and cracked torsos on their Robotos...not mine. They were perfect. I had every exclusive, sat through every nerve-wracking session on the computer with Digital River to get the non-sub figures, you name it.

Fast forward to 2012. They were now 86 figures into the line, plus beasts and even a vehicle, the Wind Raider, and I had it ALL.
Then Mattel says the line will most likely not continue, and there is absolutely no way Castle Grayskull will ever happen. I was crushed. There were so many main heroes and villains still missing...factions incomplete. No Ram Man, no Mekaneck, no Mantenna or Two-Bad. And the thought of no Castle utterly ruined it. I mean, that is the entire POINT of MOTU. That is what they're fighting over. It is central to everything in MOTU. I had had enough. All the QC issues, the double talk, stressing out over Digital River, and now cancellation? If they canceled the line, and it really looked like that was going to happen, I figured I'd never be able to sell this gigantic, yet incomplete beast of a collection.

Soooo...with only days to go before they announced the line was to end, I sold it. ALL of it. Gone.
Then wouldn't you know it. They announced it was saved. Not only did it NOT end, but it exploded the following year with TWO subscriptions. A new one was added for Filmation characters. Then, the unthinkable happened. They announced Castle Grayskull. Despite repeatedly saying it would never EVER happen unless there was a movie to support it, it happened.

As of now, the line is at around 200 figures, and remains the biggest regret I will ever have. I cannot even look at MOTU toys without feeling depressed.

^Bummer dude. I don't blame you for bailing though. Even from the sidelines, Mattel's handling of this line, and it's passive aggressive communications with their fans has always put me off.

My biggest regret is the years I wasted buying new stuff that is now worthless and can still be had for sometimes less than retail. From 1989 up until the early 2000s, I chased nearly everything with a Bat on it. Meanwhile, cool vintage stuff just kept going up and up in price.

I look at the totes I have stuffed with doubles of 90s action figures and think "WHY?".

I regretted getting rid of my motuc collection too, but I'm happy I did....I saved a lot of money and motu would have pushed every other collectible I have to the back burner. Plus, that money started my vintage Star Wars collection which has extended into the black series and select saga/mission series figures that fit very well with the vintage line.

And with the batman 66 stuff that's out, I'm glad I made the decision. My regret is getting rid of my kenner mask collection which was complete and mint. I sold it when I got bored of it and it's the only toy line I regret selling....I miss boulder hill and matt tracker!!!!!

        How about the opposite...

Well on the optimistic road, the Hasbro Star Wars 1:6th scale as we would call them now are actually much cooler than I recall. Looking back I can see when less effort went into the Episode 3 as opposed to Episode 2 ones. Ironically that's when the Sideshow, Hot Toys type of stuff starting showing up. Anyhow I have so many and they are great figures.

Btw I also sold a lot of the Masters of the Universe Classics. I did keep He-Man, Skeletor, Battle Cat, and Faker for some reason. My only regret is selling Beast Man and Man At Arms.

dam that sucks dude... but it's still new enough where you can start back up...that's part of the fun.

My regret is a very expensive rare Warrior but I won't bore you with that one..

Now one of my other regrets is a lot like what Earth 2 Chris put, Instead of buying stupid new star wars episode & potf figures and freakin STARTING LINEUPS!! I should've been investing in legos..Most lego sets from the late 90's till now double and quadruple in price in a matter of a couple of years

It'd recollect a few select motuc figures if teela wasn't an arm and a leg. I'd be happy with the castle and the first wave of original motuc figures. I'd end up springing for trap jaw too.

I feel your pain, D.--my regret is oddly related:

As a tween-teen, I had collected every domestic vintage MOTU item--Meteorbs, Horde, you name it--up through the movie, which came out when I started college.

I had a perfect loose collection, I loved them--even now the memory of them. I sold them all for a song in the early '90s to raise funds, but I regretted it almost immediately & then the collector market exploded.

I collected the reissues for nostalgia's sake, and the 2002 relaunch--I couldn't swing MOTU Classics, as I was deep into Mego by them.
WANTED: Dick Grayson SI trousers; gray AJ Mustang horse; vintage RC Batman (Bruce Wayne) head; minty Wolfman tights; mint Black Knight sword; minty Launcelot boots; Lion Rock (pale) Dracula & Mummy heads; Lion Rock Franky squared boots; Wayne Foundation blue furniture; Flash Gordon/Ming (10") unbroken holsters; CHiPs gloved arms; POTA T2 tan body; CTVT/vintage Friar Tuck robes, BBP TZ Burgess Meredith glasses.

I collected Batman: the Animated Series figures and am so glad to have them. Playing Mantis Captain Action likewise.

GI Joe Classic Collection? Not so much.

On a similar note, when I was in 7th grade I went on a school trip upstate to frost valley and when I returned, my best friend was gone....I asked my mom where he was and she said she threw him out and that I was too old to have him in my life....

So much for wise cracking alf.......

I regret going on that trip. Even though it was fun, my mom took advantage of my absence and chucked the only toy that had survived my moves as a kid!

I'm still glad to have a complete BTAS collection MIP (well, all the show accurate figures), and I have most of them loose too. I don't regret that, but there's a lot of donation fodder in those totes, and I have done quite a bit of that.

Most of my regrets are based on hindsight - buying Toy Biz, Kenner and Playmates lines. Selling my carded Super Powers figures. Selling carded and boxed WGSH figures. Stuff like that. The money I should have used to buy Kresge cards and such.

I do really regret not buying a Greatest American Hero Bug/figures boxed set at a flea market once. The guy wanted $100 for it and I thought he was nuts.

I destroyed my Mego stretch hulk as a kid. I'm kinda bothered by that now. I also wish I had hid my toys as I got older. When I wasnt looking, they were all sold in yard sales (cheaply, I imagine).
