I'm going to be the cranky guy here...I think this figure looks like a disappointment. The pics over at AFI make this look like a sloppy custom. The sculpt isn't retro, it's soft. The jetpack and helmet look great, but the helmet is WAY too large. The likeness to Billy Campbell isn't there. And YES they can achieve likeness at that scale...just look at the ZICA SMDM figures.
I SO wanted to want this figure, but I think it just looks phoned in. Just my two cents.
Funko has got all of our numbers with the ReAction Figures line. They are hitting all of our collective soft spots. I hope this line just grows and grows (it's already pretty massive) to just touch everything we've ever wanted.
Today I'm taking a look at "The Rocketeer" figure, which is
The likeness isn't great, but it is good enough for me. Just as many, if not more, vintage human figure likenesses were off as were decent/good.
The helmet is big, and personally, I would have rather he didn't have a removable helmet, since I have zero desire to display him with his helmet off. That being said, there is one real cool advantage to the helmet being a bit big. You can position it so that he is looking up, which looks really great in a flying pose.
One other small nitpick is his flesh is a bit pale.
All in all though, I think he is a great figure, and in person, he definitely has a vintage feel. I can't wait for more of these to be released.
Sorry, but that thing looks like the Rocketeer run through a crap machine. The sculpt is terrible and the paint work is sloppy...both are sub-par even by 1970's Kenner standards. Funko should be embarrased.
My excitement for the Universal Monsters just dropped to ZERO.
