    Sideshow Superman

So as most here probably know, Sideshow has their own line of 12 inch figures, which are basically Hot Toys Wannabees. I want to love this Superman that just came out, but I dunno. Something's not right about it. Is the head too big? It doesn't seem to fit with the body. And for $200, I expect a great deal.

Man, it looks good to me. it comes with three heads and actually has a body type that looks like a super hero unlike the new Hot Toys Man of Steel figure. I'm excited.

I like it, but there's something about the heads on these Sideshow DC figures that are a bit off for me. They look like expensive figures of really good cosplayers. I'd rather they picked a specific artist's version and did it up like this. A Curt Swan or Jose Luis Garcia Lopez (Praise Be His Name) Superman would rock.

I'd love to have one with a Curt Swan head. To me, the Sideshow head looks like it is going for a realistic version of Lopez' Superman or maybe a cross between Lopez and Alex Ross. But I get what you're saying about the cosplay effect.

It amazes me with how much Superman product DC Direct pumped out over the years that it only made one figure and no statues based on Swan's work.

Gosh, I just do not like this sculpt. That jawline is so exaggerated, it doesn't look human. Scary Superman.

Well, he is an alien, after all.

One of his little known powers is the super-chew.

I think it looks like a John Byrne drawing, particularly around the mouth and the shape of the ears (almost like the way he drew Johnny Storm). It's not bad, but I'm not sold; A $200 doll should completely blow me away, but this doesn't.

Oh yeah, you nailed it. It is a Byrne version, I see it now. But that jaw... Yecch.

It is Byrne-like, even the curl. Good call, Steve.

Thanks. Like you, I think I'd rather have a Curt Swan-style head. Swan's art is much more natural.

Heads up, guys... that jaw is articulated... could be the cause of weird looks.
