    Interesting Lego article on Yahoo

I had no idea they were ever in trouble. We have one Galidor set, and it's awful. I do recall those being on clearance for pennies.

Very interesting, I've never heard of those lines that are no longer around, but then again, I didn't have kids at that point. I had no idea that they came close to bankruptcy, I just assumed that they had always made money hand over fist (that certainly must be the case these days!). Man, my son would have LOVED that Technic set with the fiber-optic stuff. He has a bunch of the motorized Technic sets, they are his favourite Legos. They are pretty expensive, but after reading the article, I guess they need to be at that price point for Lego to even make money on them.

      oh ZNAP!

I know they did manufacture a wide variety of toys in the distant past, but it's fascinating that they went so for off-brand in recent years by trying to move into Barbie or Action Figure territory. the pinkish Friends line and aggressive acquiring licenses seems to have worked wonders for them in the past decade (as well as developing in-house sub brands like Ninjango).

Wasn't Bionicle developed during that period? I seem to recall that had a fairly successful transmedia run.

Interesting article. How in the heck do you run a company and not know what the total cost of parts are that go into sets? How did they even come up with set prices?

I will admit to picking up the Galidor sets cheap and the kids do like them as they really enjoyed the interchangable nature of the parts. I have no recollection of the TV show actually being on the air and watching a few episodes on youtube is pretty painful.

I remember Galidor! The figures and the show were awful! And I had seen the promos and wanted to like it. I just couldn't.

I remember my boys playing with the Primo bricks when they were very young. There's not a lot you can do with those.
