Pre-Ebay, what was the one new toy you could never find?

I remember back in 1990 driving to every Hills, K-Mart, TRU, Kay-Bee within a 100 mile radius for weeks trying to find a Kenner Dark Knight collection Joker. Never did find him.

The original 3 3/4" Jawa (circa 1978) was a killer to find. I think he was one per case.
If a Mego figure of God did not exist, it would be necessary for EMCE to invent him.

We could never find a bunch of the cool transformers we saw in the book. Like fort max, star scream, cyclonus, and others.

Must be a Jawa thing. When I was still enjoying the renaissance of the modern POTF line, it was the chase for the dam jawas coupled with the whole changing colors on the cardbacks thing that killed it for me.

I remember as a kid driving my parents nuts, taking me to every toy store to find the 2nd version of Snake Eyes....when I finally got him, I didn't like him because he had lips moulded on his mask...those lips drove me nuts....

I have to say before I bought a computer and had access to Ebay, there wasn't allot of new retro product on the market, which is really my groove. But what was out there, I would have to say Famous Covers and the Playing Mantis Captain Action lines were the ones I looked for. Back in those days I read allot of Action Figure Digest and various hobby magazines to get my fix and stay up to date on current product. It was so funny. Before I owned a computer, I would go into a print store where you could buy time to go online. Of course my only interest was Ebay. It was like opening up the treasure chest to my childhood. I will never forget it. That was a life changing moment. Space changing too!

I live in Canada, 50% of what I ever wanted, didn't seem to come here. As a younger toy collector, i spent a lot of time hopping the border. Now I've lured enough Americans into thinking I like them to get stuff passed across. All part of my evil plan.

Bastich! For me it was Thundercats. After that line ended I went on toy hiatus for a few years.

Yeah, I remember looking everywhere for that one. I finally found one at a comic shop, but the guy wanted $15.00 for it. Ridiculous, that was three times the retail price, I wasn't going to pay that! Damn, if I only knew where his value would end up going from there.

I remember the Jawa hunt too, of course I had no idea at the time that he wasn't being released until later. Same thing with Snaggletooth, I had all the other cantina aliens but I couldn't find the little guy anywhere for awhile.

When your beer is good and you know "bacon" is a category, not a single thing, your evil plan doesn't have to move very quickly or be all that ambitious in it's scale.

pre ebay wow I can name lots - I remember wanting a Denys fisher Doctor and cyberman ever since I saw one at a who convention in 1980 - Post Ebay I got Tom about 10 years ago I still haven't got that cyberman but I have the Biff bang one now not quite as satisfying

Super powers I remeber hitting every store, and comic shop before I finished the line. I remember I had to buy Cyborg loose from one shop and his cardback at another.

I have fond memories of going to local toy shows and replacing my Mego St Kirk and spock(I was hard on my megos as a kid) crew in the 80's and I mikda miss those black and white "catalogs" from toy dealers like Cotswold and Anceint Idols when i was aquiring my classic 12" joe and action man collection.
Ebay made it much easier to find stuff but that kinda took some fun out too
