Captain Action IRON MAN, WOLVERINE, and HAWKEYE in-hand review

Wave 3 CA figure looks exactly the same as Wave 2, but the box features IM and Wolvie, and is cardboard instead of the clear plastic from earlier waves. Costume boxes are likewise made of cardboard this time. Red Skull is nowhere to be found.

    IRON MAN

Dang, this guy looks great when he's all together!
PROs: The two-piece helmet and two-piece chest piece are styrene, with a vinyl and spandex bodysuit. The gloves, belt, and boots are vinyl. When assembled, you have a pretty boss representation of Brozne-age Shellhead.
CONS: The bodysuit is a pain to get on the figure, tailoring is WAY too tight on the torso, and the Velcro won't stay together. Likewise, the chest piece is too tight fitting, requiring supergluing the two halves together. Not a problem for me, since I plan on leaving the suit on the figure permanently, but this TOTALLY DEFEATS THE PURPOSE OF CAPTAIN ACTION.

    WOLVERINE

PROs: Bodysuit tailoring is much better on this figure, and the sculpting of the one-piece face mask is excellent. Decent representation of Modern-age Wolvie.
CONS: The claws are too short, and the mask had a ton of paint slop. The body suit material will pull if you handle even semi-roughly. This is true of all the suits produced thus far, which negatively affects the line's long-term play value.

      HAWKEYE

PROs: Great looking figure when assembled. Sculpting detail is excellent, particularly the AntMan arrow!
CONS: Tailoring of the pants and tunic are ridiculously tight, with the pants refusing to stay up around his waist. Cost-cutting at the factory are killing the play value of this line. I ended up gluing the waist band to the figure's pelvis to keep him from looking like he had a load in his pants!

Five of the seven sets produced so far. Thor and Loki were in Asgard at the time this photo was taken.

I love CA, and want this line to continue, but Round 2 needs to read their factory the riot act and get the play value of this line elevated to the point where it needs to be. I am very apprehensive about the future of CA, hoping that we see Joker, Brainiac, Space Ghost, and Flash produced, but knowing this wave could very well be the end.

Here is a video review. The Iron Man mask IS a two piece. That works. Good design. The outfit also has abs stitched into the costume which is an interesting approach too. Looks like a good set. Note: The costumes are NOT available at TRU. He said he was mistaken on the comments section of his Youtube page. The rest is ...well... you know.

^^^Thanks for the reviews! These look incredible! I am very thankful to Captain Action Enterprises for making these a reality. Late but sure... Hopefully we'll get to see the DC sets from them as well.

As you can see if you look carefully at my photo, the Wolvie set I got has the eyes painted silver. Mr. Blah Blah above really glossed over the IM suit's limitations. Guess actually paying for this stuff gives the reviewer a bit more clarity. Would have really appreciated his instructional video on how to dress the figure when I got my first CA set 47 years ago.

Good points! I had a couple of questions on that Iron Man suit. That material in the chest and waist area looks VERY restrictive (and delicate). Does posing him put any stress on the seams where it connects to the rest of the outfit? It looks like it could rip fairly easy. And is the yellow face mask painted yellow or molded in that color?

The chest and pelvis vinyl is so tight and restrictive that it renders the figure practically immobile from neck to waist. The vinyl has tiny stress fractures from stretching over the figure, and I do not know if this will exacerbate deterioration over time. Glad I got three of the IM suit sets if time is not kind to my display figure. I seriously doubt that it will hold up as well as my Ideal sets have.

As I feared. But a cool figure. I always wanted an Iron man figure on this scale. I'll definitely be getting these. I would like to put Iron Man in his classic pose breaking a chain and leave it that way. With Wolverine, I might actually put him in a Hot Toys body and see if I get the proper effect in the arms area. Thanks for your response! Much appreciated.

I'm very happy with these, but if you get nitpicky, there is plenty to find fault with. Hawkeye has a different flesh tone on his face, his arms, and his hands. My particular Hawkeye tunic was unravelling at the right side's seam, and had to be repaired before I even put it on the figure.

The CA figure that I have the IM suit on is so loose at the hips, his legs flop around like a rag doll. I just have to keep telling myself that these are $30 figures, and let the little nonsense slide.

The helmet is molded in red and the face plate is painted.

Cool. The only thing on Wolverine that struck me as odd is they would actually make the blades hard and potentially dangerous for kids. Never a good idea to have sharp objects like that a child can hurt themselves with. Thanks again for your review!

It's possible his Iron Man suit had a looser fit. I noticed the tailoring varied quite a bit on all the costume sets so far. I had one Spidey suit that was ridiculously tight, and another that fit fine.

^^^ That's true. I had the exact same situation with two Spider-man outfits I purchased. One was so tight, I could hardly pose him. The second one fit him perfectly. I do think the Iron man suit may play into the tighter scenario more frequently though because of that abdominal insert mixed with the material used for the mid-section. We'll have to watch the reviews as they stream in and see if that varies. Good points though.
