    Disney Infinity figures and game

I was going to wait on collecting these because of the Pixar heavy launch but there were just too many good deals on them this week.

The figures are really nice and I imagine a lot of Disney fans are going to collect them even if the don't play the game. I think this is the first time so many different Disney characters from such a wide variety of movies and cartoons have been included together in one line. The figures all share the Infinity style but still retain their unique looks and personalities.

The game is actually a lot of fun and not at all like Skylanders. Each "playset" is a 6 to 8 hour open world sand box style game with quests. You can play the game just with the starter set. No areas are closed off if you don't have a certain figure. Collecting the additional figures is optional. Scattered throughout the worlds are several mini vaults which require a specific character to unlock and one large vault which requires all the figures of a subset to open. Unlocking the vaults gives you coins and additional items to use in the toybox mode. You do get a ton of toybox items just buy playing through the game so while the extra stuff you get for owning more figures is a nice bonus for customizing your toybox, they are again totally optionally to playing and completing the game.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

I was thinking of getting into this as well but I had to draw the line somewhere. I'm already 2 skylanders sets in and preordered into Swap Force which comes out in Oct. Disney with their VAULT of characters has the ability to out figure the Skylanders 3 sets to date and at double the skylanders prices ($14.99) for a single piece and ($25.99) for its double piece sets I had to pass it up.

The retail price of the singles is the same as Skylanders, $12.99. The figure three packs are $29.99 and the playset packs are $34.99. Except for this week most retailers are having pretty good launch week deals. At Walmart, which is where I got mine, the playset packs are on sale for $19.99 and the figure three packs are $14.99. You also get a $15 gift card when you buy the starter set.

One of the things I liked in Infinity over Skylanders is you don't need to buy certain figures to totally play the game. In Skylanders there are areas in every level that can be only opened by different elemental types. In Infinity, nothing is locked off like that. For example, you can explore every bit of the Pirates world just with, Jack, the figure included in the starter set.

The Lone Ranger figure looked cooler than the movie. Should have made it a cartoon.

Mina is the world's first Paranormal Petsitter in the new middle-grade book series by Gary Buettner, MONSTER PETS, coming in FALL 2014 from EMBY KIDS. Spooky adventure that's perfect reading for kids 8-12

Where do you pay $12.99 for Skylander singles??? I pay between $6.99 and $9.99 for singles $10.99-$11.99 for the light cores and $14.99-$15.99 for the Giants and $24.99-$25.99 for the 3 packs and adventure packs depending on where I get them... Usually between target, wal mart, toys r us and game stop and Amazon occasionally.

Walgreens. I lucked out and got some hard to find Spyro's Adventures figures there recently. But I had forgotten, last night, that Walgreens is always more expensive on toys and the retail is $9.99. I haven't seen a Skylanders figure for $7.99 since Spyro's Adventure was first released. The price went up to $9.99 on the singles when Giants came out.

I'm going to be curious if they continue using Lone Ranger much after the film flopped...

Stopped by TRU tonight. They had their figures buy one get one half off and the power disc packs were buy one get one for a $1. Found the TRU exclusive crystal Lightning McQueen too. Coolness.

We're hard into Skylanders at my house, but the Disney game looks interesting. It does annoy me that the pad for the figures is corded unlike the wireless portal in Skylanders.

I have the wired and wireless Skylanders portal and I prefer the wired. The wireless one eats batteries like crazy.

My daughter just asked me for this series, especially the Monsters Inc characters. She wasn't interested in Skylanders, but thinks this is cool. I do wonder why a classic set wasn't made for the launch, Mickey & friends? I'd bet Star Wars is next, maybe at Christmas?

There is a Fantasia Sorcerer's Apprentice Mickey figure. It was first available at the D23 expo. But it will be a mass market release too, slightly repainted. I too would have preferred more classic characters at launch too. But I wouldn't write off any Disney property because there is some pretty obscure stuff you can unlock in the game like Condorman's wings from a disc you can get in the Power Disc packs.

The other announced figures so far are-

                            Nightmare before Christmas: Jack Skellington
Toy Story: Buzz, Jessie and Woody
                            Frozen: Anna and Elsa
Phineas and Ferb: Perry and Phineas
                            Tangled: Rapunzel
Wreck it Ralph: Ralph and Vanellope

I'm sure Star Wars stuff is coming but nothing has been announced. People have spotted a lightsaber in the toy box mode in the Disney Infinity developer videos, though.

New Disney Infinity figures are out.

Walmart has Woody and Game Stop has Jack Skellington. Both are timed exclusives for each store.
