Disney to take on Skylanders with Disney Infinity game and figures

Skylanders toys sell like crazy so it was only a matter of time before some one else tried to do a Skylanders style mix of collecting figures and playing video games.

    Official site.

I think the token concept makes it overly complicated and figures themselves don't retain any stats. Everything is saved in the tokens. What makes Skylanders figures so cool is they remember their stats, upgrades and the items they have.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

Isn't Heroclix doing some of this too? A Heroclix Marvel/DC game would be sweet.

I think what makes Disney Infinity potentially very cool is the wide variety of licenses and characters they own. Besides the obvious, like the Pixar stuff, Pirates and Nightmare Before Christmas, there is the strong possibility of characters and worlds for Star Wars, Tron, Marvel and Indiana jones.

Yeah, it's still hard for me to think Disney=Marvel, and even harder for Disney=Lucasfilm.

I've been reading a bit more on the game and some sites are reporting there will be also be Lone Ranger set with Lone Ranger and Tonto figures. That does makes sense.

The figures remind me of Mattel's DC Action League. This will probably be bought for our house, I'm guessing...

Some disappointing news. The game's release date has been changed from June to August. There's also no sign of the Wreck it Ralph or Lone Ranger figures yet in the pre-orders.
