Anyone know who this 3.25" G.I. Joe type dude is?

I seem to think he was from a line of toys with an acronym. Like S.W.A.T. or something like that. Anyone know?

He's from the ill-fated Sgt. Savage line... IRON trooper, or something like that. Bad guy stormtrooper type.

Ah, Sgt. Savage...the line no one asked for!

Hard to imagine Hasbro would just throw out the GI Joe:RAH line like that, but yet they did. And it was still selling. Savage had great Joe Kubert packaging, though.

Mattel did the same thing when they changed the successful Kelly line over to a new "lemonhead" design about 10 years ago. The line never recovered. And it was HUGE.

I was at the GI JOE Convention in NY when Hasbro unveiled Sgt Savage for the first time. They actually got booed.

I subscribed to Tomart's when this happened. One issue they showed the new RAH figures due out soon...the next the fact the line was cancelled to be replaced by Sgt. Savage. I know RAH went off the rails with sci-fi elements and too many ninjas, but who thought kids in the 90s wanted WWII-based toys instead? They are actually really nice toys, but it has to be one of the biggest bone-head branding moves ever.

The first thing they did during the presentation, was announce the regular line was cancelled. Stunned silence. Then they showed us everything that they WERE going to release, but now we could never have. Sighs of pain. Then, they sprang Sgt Savage on us. Boos and teeth gnashing. Now... this was a small room, twenty or thirty fans and couple Hasbro guys... and you could just feel the tension in the room.

^I believe that's known in comic circles as the "Didio Experience".

The packaging was the only reason I bought them. Fantsastic Kubert work.

The Sgt. Savage line is one of the most underrated lines of all time. Fantastic toys all around and fun premise too.

But it's a Hasbro property, a Joe property and it canceled RAH, which is a no no. Even if it didn't actually cancel RAH, the RAH fans hated it as a result.

See also, Sigma 6. Another one of the best toy lines in decades, which has the unfortunate stink of killing the 3 3/4 Joes at a time.

The real problem with the savage line was the joints used for the legs. after years of the o ring having a figure who sat with their leg's v'd out was a let down. Some of the concepts were great but some of the vehicles like the grizzly fell short on the execuition too

                      The Warhawk is awesome

savage is like superjoe - the unloved half brother to a sucessful line
