Monster High is Terrible too.
In the end it's retail ...., and what they want to stock too.
Ever Since the 1st Transformers Flick ....., it seems as if the only thing retail really wants is Movie Toys clogging Shelves, and everything else isn't really considered anymore. 80% if not more, wind up on clearance too ...., and are so very Horrible in every way.

I think Monster High is more of a can't keep up with demand than just out and out not getting it to stores.

But Marvel (Hasbro) is doing it too. The Avengers line of 3 3/4 figures is just recycled figures from the other Marvel movie lines. Same with the 3 3/4 figures for the Amazing Spider-man. So much so that they didn't even bother making a Spider-Man in a movie accurate costume...

And people wonder why I have such low regard for movie merchandise. It's crap that will be marked down to $2.00 in 6 months. And after that, no one will be able to give it away. It's so transparent, it's a wonder they sell any of it.

You're looking at it purely from a collector's POV though. Take the Hasbro Spider-Man movie line, there's only one film accurate figure that collectors will probably want and tons of Spider-Man variants with all kinds of glowing, zipping, flipping etc. features because that's what KIDS want. An eight year old isn't going to play with an Uncle Ben or a Captain Stacy figure. Sure, those wild variants may not have any after market value, but that's not what they're for. They're toys for kids, first and foremost. Hasbro wouldn't make them if they didn't sell. As long as there's some kind of offering for adults too, be it in the regular line, or with Marvel Select or Hot Toys, then I'm happy.

Just shows how far we've come in expecting tv and movie/screen accurate toys... Although I guess there is still charm in seeing a spiderman in short sleeves and sneakers as well.

Hasbro has long made a huge profit on recycling the same molds over and over. Most of the original RAH figures used the same molds, and they were pretty creative in combining parts to make new character throughout the run of that line. Now they repackage Star Wars figures with slight modifications over and over, and they do the same with the Marvel figures. I do appreciate that they differentiate the comic/film/and just plain made-up figures though.
