Something I just noticed about the Playing Mantis Captain Actions.

I was comparing the window boxed and long boxed Playing Mantis Captain Action figures I have and I noticed that the long boxed version is actually shorter. Weird. I never really noticed it before.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

the PM cappys are all a little bit shorter than the Ideal version.

In addition, the plastic used for the pelvis is pretty flexible, so if the doll is strung up tight he will sort of shrink down in the spine area as the torso settles further into the pelvis. This is much more pronounced on the Action Boy figures since the pelvis piece is thinner than the Captains. Just about all of my AB figures have shrunk about 1/4 to 1/2 an inch over the years.

Thank you for the info. The height difference between my first and second edition PM Cappy is fairly pronounced.

And the face paint is different. I actually like the face paint of the Captain Action figures that came dressed as Flash Gordon better than the ones included in the retro long boxes.

PM changed the paint aps to make Cappy look a little more serious for his final releases. There are a few variations on it from the PM run. I guess they were trying to get away from the befuddled and happy Cap who happens to be my favorite. Especially if he has had some 5 o'clock shadow drawn in with a marker.

I always thought the original Cap had a slightly worried/disappointed expression. Sort of like an "Aww, man, I can't believe they are sold out my favorite toy again." look. And that's why he is awesome.

Yes! Cappys expression is priceless and is almost as much of the CA experience for me as the masks. James Bond may have been Mr. Cool in the 60's but while he may have been holding on to a martini glass in Casino Royale - Cappy actually knew what the drink tasted like.
And the little smirk let you know he had an ace up his sleeve. You can afford to be goofy if you know you can become Batman or the Phantom at the drop of a hat. I can't think of too many folks over the age of, say, 10 or 11 who have that skill.

I always liked the way the Ideal CA looked.
And I love his blue/black uniform, cap, belt and boots! A really cool uniform!
The Ideal CA figure is still the best version IMHO !
