I'm assuming there will be yet another version ( mark 7?) given that he changes hs armor in the film to the one we glance in the trailer with the circular chest thing (at whedon's insistence)
You know that looks cool. But I have to finally say Hot Toys has exhausted the marketplace with Iron Man figures. I'm getting fatigued just looking at them. And even though they're all very cool, I just don't see enough differences between most of them to wonder why anyone would buy them all. But, of course, you have collectors that do just that. One day we'll be up to Mark 100 and some dude will have them all.

going by my wife's toy shopping experiences in the land of never-ending robots and sentai, I'm really not surprised that he's so popular given that Hot Toys is aimed primarily at the Asian collectors market. I had to try and find a very nice way of telling her to stop bringing back a new Iron Man revoltech figure every single month for me from Japan, not that I wasn't hugely grateful and appreciative, but 5 are enough. I wish Revoltech would make other Superheroes other than the one Bale Batman and the bimonthly Iron Man variants.
I'm really trying hard not to get into any of the Avengers related Hot Toys and just stick to Batman's and Spiderman. I'm sure by the time you get all the Avengers related hot toys, you could probably buy a car with that amount.

EXACTLY! When it comes to Hot Toys I am very selective. It goes without saying they're all cool figures. But for me, it has to transcend being a cool figure and be more of a conversation piece that anyone would love. Characters like the Keaton/Batman and Jack Sparrow speak to that definition for me. They're not figures, they're art.
I've been thinking quite a bit about the luxury model of marketing... which Hot Toys fits to a tee. The reason why there are so many Iron Man figures is that they can charge that higher price point for a very limited edition that will always be guaranteed to have more demand than product. As warlock pointed out with this Iron Man, they can easily go back to produce ANOTHER run with new packaging, slight variations or improvements (DX versions), while maintaining that exclusivity of the previous variation.
At the end of the day, owning a Hot Toys figure is the Toy Collector's equivalent of owning a Porsche or whatever the female fashion equivalent name brand is for purses.
I think there is also an example of a really good wine that they could not give away for ten bucks, but as soon as they upped the price to forty, it became a success overnight. Hot Toys has been pushing the price point well past the previously established hundred dollar mark (Sideshow, Medicom RAH) because they were seeing how much these could sell for in the aftermarket by limiting production. Why try and move 10,000 units for thirty bucks, when you can sell out of 1,000 for $300?
It seems like HT has a crush on Iron Man, Batman, Schwarzenegger, and Johnny Depp. Maybe they think that's what Westerners want. I mean, we do, but not only those guys and multiples of them. They're still doing more Terminators and we still don't have Conan yet, for Pete's sake.

I don't need this version either .
Bring on the Hulk ..., and maybe Cap.
I will probably get Cap. I'm torn on waiting for the modern one or getting the WW II version while it's still easy to get.

I'd say less a crush on the characters themselves and more love of the money these particular characters are bringing into their pockets.
And I don't believe it's westerners they are primarily concerned with as customers since only limited amounts of the runs are released here via sideshow. I've seen the pictures of the lineups to their showrooms in Hong Kong and Tokyo during a major release. Think of the great cabbage patch kids Christmas shortage of the eighties. their bread and butter is Pacific Rim.

Are guys in Hong Kong that interested in Jack Sparrow, though? Or Wolverine? I honestly don't know. I'd always assumed HT had been doing Asian-oriented stuff all along, and this Western stuff was sort of a side thing to expand their market. Of course, that's me working totally on preconceived notions that I pulled completely out of my behind with no info to base it on.

I think wolverine and Sparrow are huge all over the world

Feel free to tell her to bring back some for me...
