On a recent trip to my favorite vintage toystore, I rummaged through some of the old Kenner/Hasbro 12" Star Wars figures, and to my surprise, found that I really like these things. Sure, they're not Hot Toys, or even Sideshow quality, but they were also only $20, which for a 12" clothed figure seems like a steal nowadays.
I am truly impressed with the level of detail these figures were able to achieve at their price point. Some figures, like Lando Calrissian, Bossk, Admiral Ackbar, Zuckuss are just stunning. Bossk in particular has a TON of detail on his outfit. The other thing I really like about them is they actually look like a natural extension of the original 1970's 12" line, had it continued.
I think the best figure I saw was Yoda. He actually has a better sculpt and more lifelike appearance than the Sideshow version, IMO. From what I can find online, it appears they made close to 200 different figures in the entire line from all six films. That's just a staggering amount, and would make for a fantastic collection. They even made 12" scale Tauntauns and a Dewback.
I think I may have found a new collection to start...
