Got the Urge to build a Fighter Jet Model.

As a kid I always love building Fighter Jet models. Lately I been staring at them in the store and have been getting the urge to build one.

One of my favorites is the F-14 Tom Cat. I think it's just COOLEST design.
Do any of you build models?

Obsessively. Always have. All kinds, although I have a special weakness for obscure Japanese robots.

As a kid I built jets, bombers, tanks, battle ships- anything military. When I got the car bug a little bit older, I started building model cars but quit when I could replace them with real cars.

Didn't touch a plastic kit again until about 11 years ago- but didn't finish it- then about a year ago I was in my local Hobby Town USA and saw a Fire bird called the Trans-um.

It was a cartooned version of a Trans Am and a repro kit from the 70s from a line I think made by MPC called Deals Wheels. I loved the ridiculous proportions and bought it- and finished it- and lo and behold found the patients and skill had somehow caught up with me and enabled me to complete the kit and it actually looks good - and not the glue bomb I usually ended up with.

I went on a tare after that and have built close to 20 since with at least another 20 kits stored in the garage- I've been on a bit of a break for the last few months and now it's generally too cold to work on them in my unheated garage- though I have 2 kits underway on the hellish nightmare that is my work table!

I say go for it!! You will either get over the building bug a few steps into it or re-discover a love of plastic kits and kick yourself for getting rid of all the vintage stuff you had years ago thats now worth a bajillion dollars!!

Just had to add - the SR-71 Blackbird was THE COOLEST plane EVER!!! I should probably get one of those to build when I get tired of cars.

If any of you are interested in some kits, I have a list of them I am getting rid of in the classic toys section.

Cool guys! Right now there's only one thing stopping me from building some Models. I've put my hobbies because I'm packing and boxing up all my stuff, so when my house sells I'll be ready to move to Florida. But once I'm settled, I'm gonna build that F-14 Tom Cat.

I used to build some jet models as a kid but especially like Sci-Fi model kits. In recent years there has been a resurgence of Sci-Fi kits; especially Classic SF. If you want some off-beat subjects let me recommend these which have reviews on the CultTVman website. I bought all of these and am working on them currently. That Martian War Machine is really a good sized model:

              Fantastic Voyage Cartoon Voyager

              CultTVmans Aurora Voyager

              New Viper Mark II

              CultTVmans Viper Mk II

When Worlds Collide Space Ark Rocket

              CultTVmans Space Ark

              Martian War Machine

My favorite plane to build and paint as a kid was the Flying Tiger. Still think they are pretty cool looking.

Cool kits guys! One of my favorites was the "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea" submarine.

Other favorite plane models were the F-16 Phantom...and the WW2 Corsair.

After a... um... 32 year hiatus, three weeks ago I put together a 1:24 Spitfire.

Not historically accurate, but I actually took my time and didn't throw it together in an afternoon, as per ye olden tymes. A few ****-ups and some lessons learned - might make a mosquito next.

Nice! Back in June last year I ordered the Pegasus (Jeff Wayne's) Martian Tripod, but the guy I was buying it off said there was a better kit coming out if I wanted to wait. Still waiting. Have you heard anything about it?

I love the Corsair. Also really like the ME-262, WWII, German fighter Jet. I don't think I could build a very good model of it so I bought the Forces of Valor toy. This isn't exactly mine, (this is 1/18. Mine is smaller), but the one I have is similar to this-just brighter green.

Do you mean the Seaview or the Flying Sub? There are 3 versions of the Seaview. The Original movie version w/8 windows is due to be released soon. 2 versions of them are about 38 inches long. There's also a new Flying Sub model kit out-pretty large too.

You mean this one? This is the only one I know of. VoodooFX also makes a lighting kit for it. The Spitfire looks outstanding.

When I had my heart attack last summer I built these. I loved Tom Daniels models when I was a kid. http://www.knockknocktoys.com/tomdanielmodels.html
