Looking around over there I feel kinda stupid. What good is having a webstore if everything in it is sold out? I think I'm going to have the word 'sucker' tattooed across my forehead. Straight up marketing gimmick.

Damn I feel dumb.
I agree. What point is there in advertising something that is already sold out? That would be like one of us here making a really nice elaborate market place ad and marking sold next to everything before we even post it up for sale.

I know that oil prices are going up, but I wish these new toys were a bit more affordable. Part of all of the nostalgia for me is to see my kids play and enjoy some of the toys I liked as a kid. That was a great portion of my joy with the retro action heroes.
Yeah, they announced that this was coming when they opened up the subscriptions for the new lines. It's a ploy to force subscription buys and of course, it's also a way for them to make more money.
Hilariously, the price increase is on all items and all lines and skus. So if a single figure's price is raised by $3, the price increase on a three pack is $6. The best part is that it also retroactively effects items. So you know those Ghostbusters figures they couldn't give away at $8? Well now they cost $23. Yes, they're raising the prices on figures that have already been produced and have been sitting in a warehouse for a year. Because you know, THAT totally makes sense.
Of course, the sad part is, every item on the website, sans a handful, are actually all "in-stock" and could be purchased, but Mattel's mindblowing strategy is not have them up for sale at the same time. Instead you have to hope that they put them up for sale at some point during the year. And of course, some of those figures may be rare and in demand, but rather than Mattel make money on them, they refuse to sell them and then blow them out in wacky blind buy sales halfway through the year.
Also they can't have too many figures up for sale at once (except for a few times a year) because then you might actually be able to combine shipping on items and clearly, Mattel makes money on the shipping, so that's bad for them if you can get many items for less. Not that they aren't already overcharging for shipping and using the absolute worst shipping service in the entire galaxy.
Mattel is the only company in the world that cares what the resell value on their figures is. If the prices on MOTUC figures get too cheap on the secondary market, Mattel will actually produce less or cut sales off early, to help spike their resell value. Mind you, Mattel sees none of the resell value money, instead they just lose money. It's called being a brilliant business?
I believe their goal is to see just how far they can push collectors (MOTU collectors in particular) before people say enough is enough. They seem to be getting pretty close to the threshold, but they haven't quite made it yet.
Yep, Mattel has the collector mentality now. They arent making any sense. Once the molds are paid for they should feel a little easier about releasing figures a few at a time at retail. I dont understand their strategy and its keeping their line out of reach for many who would normally want them.
I think Mattel is way too comfortable with their bread and butter lines. Hot Wheels and Barbie have been carrying the company for years.
It is too bad that a major toy company cannot get their stuff together and produce a good quality product in the RAH that would sell giving them a third leg to stand on in the future. Who knows what the future of Barbie and Hotwheels will have? Why put your eggs all in one basket so to speak? Expand your horizons and give the people what they want and still make money.
