    The Muppets! (2011)

It's time to get things started...all over again! Just purchased tickets to see The Muppets on Thanksgiving and haven't been this excited since they took Manhattan. With billboards, bus stops and every channel bombarded with the old gang, it looks like the Muppets are finally back! There isn't much movie merch for The Muppets at retail, but I did pick up a set of the new 2011/movie Disney Store exclusive plush yesterday...

IMO they are definitely some of the best Muppets plush in recent years, if not THE best entirely plush set (no plastic molded faces/eyes) ever. These are available online at Disney Store for $16.50 ea. (Rizzo & Pepe are $12.50), but I HIGHLY recommend picking these out in person if possible. The set and spacing of the eyes varies wildly for many of these (Kermit, Fozzie, especially Gonzo & over half the Animals in store had severe googly eyes). Finding a Piggy with a nicely set head of curls is a task unto itself as well. There's also a Walter plush just hitting and rumors of Swedish Chef and others. Also coming up is the standard Disney pvc pack coming to Disney stores and theme parks...

Nothing trumps Palisades & Master Replicas, but it was certainly nice to see new Muppets product especially for the new movie. The new film's soundtrack also dropped today and sounds great, lots of traditional Muppet sounds but still fresh. I also recommend picking up The Green Album (lots of covers by Ok Go, Weezer, The Fray, My Morning Jacket, Amy Lee, The Airborne Toxic Event and more) that came out a few months ago!

They're really cool - but I wish they were hand puppets.

I think nothing beats the Pallisades muppet action figures.

I think we are going to see the movie this weekend. There is a Toy Story short playing with it that only sweetens the deal!

Also, there is a new Muppets music compliation, called "The Green Album" featuring new versions of Muppets songs. OK GO! does the Muppet Show theme, and Weezer handles Rainbow Connection. Good stuff!!!

One thing that always great about the muppets is its good family entertainment.

FAO has an exclusive wave of four new plush hand puppets from the movie (Kermit, Fozzie, Animal, Beaker) at Toys R Us stores priced at $19.99 ea. They're about the same scale as the Disney Store plush albeit cut in half - there are no legs. I picked up Kermit & Fozzie. If a bit pricey for what they are, they are very well made and look great (Fozzie looks especially good in person, tho I didn't think Animal was executed as well), and actually the most affordable hand puppet alternative for kids on the market right now, much less than putting together their own Whatnot or tracking down *gulp* a Master Replica. You can pick them up in stores, at TRU, or get them all on the FAO website. Word of warning - my tiny girly hands are a tight fit, anyone with ham fists and sausage fingers will struggle with these! Lol

Also in Muppet news, the Muppet Whatnot Workshop kits are available now at Toys R Us, FAO and Disney Stores - pricey of course, but imagine how much fun these would be for the kids! Disney Theme Parks also have the Star Wars/Muppets articulated action figure 2-packs dropping soon (anyone know how tall these are?). And last but not least, The Muppet Show Season 4 dvd has FINALLY been green-lit and should hit by Spring 2012 (no word yet on blu ray).

Thanks! I did see these, but I'm not crazy about them. A few years ago a company called Sababa Toys put out a full body Kermit and Animal that was a lot nicer, in my opinion. I bought a bunch of those and gave them out - they were very close to the old Fisher-Price 80s puppets. I was hoping for something like that to give for gifts this year.

The Star Wars Muppet sets are just too cute! I may have to track down the Kermit and Ms. Piggy set.

Build-A-Bear is producing Kermit & Miss Piggy plush puppets with moveable mouths. They're made well, but almost like a Muppet Show/Muppet Babies hybrid due to the proportions. I think these are out around the same time the dvd/bluray hits.

Apparently the theater that was used as the Muppet theater in the new movie, the El Capitan next to Jimmy Kimmel in LA, sold Muppets plush with popcorn: Kermit, Piggy, Fozzie, Animal and Gonzo. Very cool, wish I'd known that!

I still have the ones from when I was a kid. The Muppets are one of my most favorite things in the world and Jim Henson is one of my role models. He was so creative.

I loved the television show. It was a staple at our house back in the 70's.
