Club Eternia Question For The MOTU Classics Experts

Hello everyone. Now that the Retro DC series has more than likely been nixed, I'm going to need to find another way to get my fix. I've been admiring the MOTU Classics line for a long time now, but I've stayed away because of how quickly they sell out, and I really didn't want to go through the aggravation. Well, today I bit the bullet and bought Buzz-Off and Clawful. I'm thinking that I'll probably start seriously collecting this line once I get an up-close look at these two, so I'm thinking of purchasing a Club Eternia membership for 2012; the sign-up period starts next Friday. I know that you can purchase as many subscriptions as you'd like, but does Matty have a limited number of subscriptions available? I'm just curious if the subscriptions can sell out like most of the figures do. I'd ask this on the Matty forum, but I'm not a current member. Any info you can give would be great. Also, I know that Mattel is not the most popular company around here right now, so I hope the bashing can be kept to a minimum. Thanks.

I love this line, but if you're a little patient you can find them cheap on ebay a month after they've been released, I believe there is only a limited number of subscriptions available

There is a limited time to buy the subscriptions but there isn't a limited number so you wont have to hurry or miss out. Once the time ends, you wont be able to buy again until next year.

Thanks for the replies. If I do end up liking this line, I'm going to have a lot of catching up to do.

So do you guys keep them carded or display them loose? I'm really debating which way to go because of space limitations.

I display them loose...they are simply too awesome to leave in the package.
Seriously, Battle Cat and Panthor will make you cry!

I have the entire collection so far, and IMO, this will go down in history as the greatest modern toyline ever. There is so much great stuff on the way...Filmation characters, the return of mini-comics with the figures, vehicles, and even all-new characters.

When was the last time a toyline just CREATED new characters that didn't already come from a cartoon or video game?
The excitement of not knowing exactly what's coming makes collecting this line like Christmas 12 months a year.

I think one of the coolest things about them is their size...in my adult hand, they have that same heftiness and bulk that the original 80's figures did when I was a kid. They just FEEL like the most powerful toys in the universe...I'm addicted.

Yeah, they do look like they would be a lot of fun to take out and display loose, but the MOC nerd in me is keeping me from doing it. Space is at a premium, so I'm only going to be able to display about 30 figures at a time, and the rest will have to stay in the closet until I rotate them through. Taking them off the card would be the logical choice if it wasn't for the darn OCD.

I was Collecting MOC ... OR Boxed .
However With re-issues, I have been buying some of my Favorites again to display loose and Play with. I just picked up an Extra Battle Cat to Pose with my He-man Figure.

They are real neat figures ..., but I love my DCU Classics too.

I open all of mine. For starters I don't have the space to keep all those bubbles and white shipping boxes. Plus, they really are great toys. They are meant to be posed and played with. I would not hesitate to give these to kids to play with too. The packages say they are for the adult collector but they are very sturdy well made toys.

Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

Well, I got one in today with a less than perfect card, so I'm going to open that one and go from there. This really is a tough decision. I was thinking of buying two of each, but that's going to get expensive.

I'd buy another He-man, BattleCat & Trapjaw to play with.

Trap Jaw and Man-E-Faces were two of my favorites when I was a kid. I just got my Trap Jaw reissue in from Mattel yesterday; looking forward to getting Man-E in August. I sure wish I wouldn't have destroyed my toys as a kid. On a side note, I went ahead and opened one of my figures that had a flawed card, and I now know that I'll never do it again. Tearing open that bubble felt awful.

                              I absolutely LOVE this line.

However, I am not sure that they would sell as well in toy stores. Nor do I think the line would cover the vast amount of characters it has/is scheduled to cover.

I think Mattel is actually starting something that will likely become a trend in adult toy collecting by offering the subscription. It limits the toys to the target audience, assures sale of merchandise, reduces distribution to a single entity, and reduces risks in the non-sale of product. (and yes, I know Digital River stinks as a distributor)

Now, I do find flaws in the subscription style. And for those of us who can't afford it, it can be sad to have to do the monthly scrambling to buy them online. But all in all I think it has the figures available and beautifully done.

Sorry for the long rant there. Some friends and I were just speculating about what the subscription means for the future of toys. Anyway, I had a subscription in 2010 and throughly enjoyed it. I just can't afford it (what with funding going to the Mantooth Product Launch of '11
I have since bought figures on an individual basis, and will continue to do so.
