Chatting with other toy fanatics and hearing talk about these 1/6 GI Joe wanna be's. In our area (Pittsburgh Pa) these guys arent on shelfs. Rumbling rumors tell that they ran into trouble with Hasbro. But I'd figure I'd go National and see if anyone had a better answer.

I used to see them all the time in Dollar General stores, and they appeared to be Dollar General exclusive for a time. To this day, one of my favorite figures is the Bank Robber. They caught a lot of heat maybe six years back for having a line based on criminals and terrorists, but they had a great array of playsets and vehicles. I think I still have one of their snowmobiles. -
They only show up around late summer and sometimes Christmas. They're not in stores year round. Best place to find them is Big Lots. They haven't hit yet this year. Often they are just repacks or slightly different versions of figures that were released years past.
Sometimes they do playsets and such, but those haven't been hitting as often in recent years.
Here's a review of one I picked up last year: Infinite Hollywood: Power Team Elite: Navy Seal Night Operation Figure ReviewComment

my Big Lots has them right now. How can Hasbro give them trouble when they don't even produce 12 inch Joes right now.You must try to generate happiness within yourself. If you aren't happy in one place, chances are you won't be happy anyplace. -Ernie BanksComment

I've seen similar items in the JCPenney Christmas catalog."Do you believe, you believe in magic?
'Cos I believe, I believe that I do,
Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic
If your mission is magic your love will shine true."Comment

No troubles with Hasbro. Just lack of interest from retailers. Occassionally, somebody will bring in 12" figures for Christmas, like Sears Canada, or Giant Tiger (again in Canada),but the 12" hayday of a decade ago hasnt returned yet
They still do well overseas."Crayons taste like purple!"Comment

^^^ I'm guessing the classic Joe will make a comeback for the 50th anniversary in a few years. You must try to generate happiness within yourself. If you aren't happy in one place, chances are you won't be happy anyplace. -Ernie BanksComment

I was checking arround a few days ago before starting the thread. The large scale figures where MIA at Dollar Gen. and Family Dollar. At Big lots I saw a 1/6 figure but the heads dont pivot like Joe necks. The heads just swivel on a post. That what started the conversation. I know a guy who stocks for B-lot.Comment
