Will I ever be able to buy the new MOTU figures without having to go to a scalper?

The online store (mattycollector.com) is a joke. Nothing is ever in stock. Furthermore, someone can buy up to ten of any one figure- making the figures ripe for scalping. How about limiting it to two (2) PER customer?? Pretty depressing to have to pay a scalper $100 (or more) for even a LOOSE MOTU figure. Is the reason to make these scarce is to boost their value? If so, that's depressing. I don't care about the value. I was gouged by scalpers back in the 90's when I bought Star Wars and Spawn- under the guise that someday they would be worth a lot of money. Those same toys that I paid through the nose for 15 years ago are selling for pennies on the dollar today...

    hmmmm ....

I started collecting these since the Begining with King Grey Skull, then He-man and Beastman. I had everyone then on up to BattleCat, then it was all of a Sudden just so difficult to Obtain any threw the site.

At the Begining of this year, it then somewhat , keep in mind if you show up right at the launch of the time for sale, to actually purchase them again. I've gotten every 1 Since Jan ..., Except for Vikor, which a Buddy hooked me Up, and the Re-issues seem to be a Breeze to Obtain. The Last Figure Sk-Clone was still up for sale for the better part of a Week too. Panthor did sell out in Opening Day I believe, But all re-issues have been very easy to buy.

I think the Line is loosing steam, people walked away, and production #'s are up a bit more after subscriptions. I'd say hang in there, and if you truely want them, you should be able to get them with little effort than in the past.

Almost all of the figures can be obtained on the secondary market now for fairly cheap. Sometimes even less than retail, but typically just a few bucks more. So long as you don't care about the re-issues. There's usually nothing different about the re-issues but the packaging.

The only figures that are really hard to get is the subscription exclusives and the original SDCC exclusives. Even those can typically be had if you want to spend a little extra.

Mattel is supposedly going to cut down on re-issues, since sales of those have slowed down (many last a whole week, gasp!) and they're against keeping the figures up for sale for any sort of extended period (presumably because the people they have hired to run their website are so inept).

You can also pick up versions of the figures at Toys R Us, in MOTUC vs DCUC two packs, so long as you don't mind them being slightly tweaked repaints.

As well, if you're SUPER gung ho about the line... You can always lock into a subscription. That will guarntee you all the figures (except for when they come up with random bonus figures, ) and such.

Also, and you didn't hear this from me... There is a slim chance this line may end up being a retailer exclusive in the years ahead. That's hardly confirmed, mind you, but there is some strength to that rumor.

Finally, if you live near a Mattel outlet store (there are a few throughout the country) you can pop into one and find many of the MOTUC figures for sale in there, often at reduced prices.

      Hope that helps.

I'd hate to think I'd have to pay more than 30, 40 dollars tops for any
figure I want. So far I've been fine... and sometimes the loose figures are
        bought for even cheaper.

Sure I never got a TRAP JAW, a character I really wanted, but I believe if I really wanted him now, that a loose one would be relatively cheap...
        especialy a reissue.

I have collected these from the beginning and it's not hard to get them now for a decent price. The first year or so was tough but Digital River, though still not the best, has gotten better. To me the best thing they did was offer subscriptions. Yes, the cost of a sub is a little expensive, I have not missed a single figure because of it.

I got a subscription this year for these reasons stated. I bought 2 subscriptions last August to avoid the ebay scalpers and cut down costs of the figures. I use the extra figures I have has trade bait for figures I've missed. If you looking for MOTUC figures check out my BST or pm me with wants.
