    Matty Collector = Why Bother?

I'm signed up for Matty's email alerts.... I get one I click to "Check it Out"... Nothing is on sale yet and everything else is SOLD OUT? If it was just a couple items okay sure, but almost EVERYTHING? Just take it down. Don't show m what I can't have you A- Holes!

    I mean really, why bother?

Grrrr that's annoying. I stopped taking any notice of them for the exact same reason.

We have never had a problem with them, not one. I know, strange.... In fact, we just got the notice yesterday that our two Vikors are on the way! YAY Cona...errrr..."He-Man of the North"! Even before we had the subscription, my wife never had a stitch of trouble with 'The White Screen of Death'.

Buzz-Off was the most recent, and he is awesome!

The most trouble I've had was with the Reeve Superman. It took about 20 minutes for the order to process because of the white screen thing. I can't imagine trying to order MOTUs though. I know that's what's clogging up the pipeline!

If MOTU Classics are so successful, why doesn't Mattel just do a general release or at least a retail specialty line? I just don't get it! Id but these in a second if they were reasonable attainable.

Then again, I don't get Retro-Action marketing, either lol.

The longest it's taken me to order anything from them was the Dec 15 sale that just past. It was a 15 minute wait. Otherwise, I've not had any trouble ordering. I even got the DCUC Plastic Man.

The worst wait for shipping was Retro Green Arrow. It took almost 2 months. I was about to call them when it showed up. I remember I had the flu that day and it was like Arrow came just in time to cheer me up.

I think this site was created by an Evil Mastermind, simply to annoy collectors to death. I can see him at the controls:
"Aha, someone ordering a Stinkor. Ok, let him put in the basket. Yeah, he thinks he has it. Keep him on hold for ten minutes now. Aha, he's about to press "check-out". Good. Now just as he does that, we give him the old "sold out" sign. Woooohaaahaaaaa!!!!!"

I think this site is run by Ming the Merciless...
                    .
                    .
                    .
"When things are at their darkest, it's a brave man that can kick back and party."

^ You are VERY correct sir!

PNGwynne - Sadly, Mattel's 'strategy' makes PERFECT sense, for THEM....See, they are the crack dealers, and MOTUC fans are the crackHEADS, it's all very clear. Why on EARTH would they offer them at retail when they have fanboys STAMPEDING each other to get them on-line for $30 a pop?? Think of "Soylent Green Day", that scene in the film where simple food purchases devolve into mob chaos? ...Well, sadly, mob chaos ENSURES that the fans and the fanatics will be there every sale date, like methed-out zombies, jittering for their MOTUC. Its really very unfortunate and a little more than angering for Mattel to continue to mistreat their customer base in this way, especially considering that the MOTU brand made BILLIONS for them and made a LOT of CEOs VERY wealthy.

To me, its kind of like rancid old miser that one day just 'turns' on his loyal manservant of 50 years, and only because he found a manservant that would do the same job for a few dollars less...VERY sad, but is the way of the corporate pushers I'm afraid.. (In terms of quality of materials...)

We wont event get into their DCU line...at the better part of $20 a pop for 6" figures, you'd like to think that a major corporation like Mattel could get their sh1t together and NOT sell broken/sloppily painted/horridly loose/incorrectly manufactured/etc. figures, but meh... (My wife has the majority of the DCUC line, and she has no less than a DOZEN that are actually manufactured WRONG, if you can imagine! Dollar store figures, sure, but $20+ figures from a major manufacturer?!? ....C'mon...)

Remember 'Matty' - You will eventually p1ss ENOUGH folks off with your arrogance and greed that they will seek out other lines, if only out of pure frustration. Poor Mattel, they are becoming the Ron Jeremy of the toy biz - going from on top of their game and willing to do what it takes to please, to a bloated, unpleasant joke...
(Remind me to show you our Sinestro sometime....maybe YOU gan get him to actually STAND...)

If Mego could do it 35 years ago using blow-molded parts from Kowloon, and do it BETTER, whats YOUR excuse in 2011 Mattel?? Sheeeesh...

The prices have kept me from the DCU line, I have a few from the first waves but when they hit $14 that was it. I saw the writing on the walls concerning the MOTUC line in the beginning and a much anticipated line is dead to me. The prices and the bs you have to go through to get a single figure doesn't add up.

Given how ridiculously successful the MOTU Matty figures are in the aftermath of the non-performance of the previous line at retail, I think they have a business model that is sustainable. Smaller runs aimed at the Collector's Market at a slightly higher price point... plus the addition of the subscription service to address the fan concerns.

We know that the "Limited Edition" perception is what is driving the marketplace right now... Matty Collector stuff is at every toy/comic show and all over ebay. Yet it's not like they have stopped releasing additional runs of the more popular characters (with a different colour accessory or a slightly different paint ap).

I don't think we'll be seeing MOTU back on the local toy shelves until there is suitable tie-in media like an animated series or movie.

One per month prior to the movie release... February? March? Have they announced next month's offerings yet?
