DC Universe Classics...To keep?

Hi,

My son and I were talking and I was curious as if it is worth to keep the DC Universe Classics figures MOC or to even keep any doubles MOC. Due to the mass production (forgetting Target exclusives) is there any real investment value or is this more just about the love of a product? I know there is no real answer so to speak but we were curious.

What do you think?

The only one MOC I kept was the Terry/Batman Beyond variant. Thats because I already had Batman Beyond in his normal version. I've opened all the rest. I don't see them as being long term valuable at this point. Like the 90's Toy Biz X-Men that so many kept and couldn't really give away today much less sell for lots of cash.

There's Investment in certain figures, that I think will always somewhat Remain. Granted, it's not gonna be like a 70's or 80's figure by any means. People also like to trade for carded stuff complete with C&C pieces, over loose stuff. I really collect them Both Ways. Sorta all over The Place with these. Some Carded stuff That Does Have Value ...

Gentleman's Ghost. Because of the Giganta Head and Crotch... This piece is highly Sought After.
Wave 5 Origional set still has some pull as well, even with the Re-issued figures.
Hawkgirl , However because of the new Walmart 2 pack, she might go down..
Wave 2 & Wave 3. These were very hard to get, and even more so, because at the time alot of retail did not stock these, because everyone had cases of wave 1.

of Wave 2 all got some pull ..., I wouldn't open these right now .

These have pull too from what I saw ...about 30 to 60 a figure, with Robin who comes with the left Arm to Grundy, having the most.

Artemes Variant WonderWoman from Wave 4 Has some serious pull too.

Nek'ed Cheeta. Right now people try and get 150 for her ..., some do suceed as well.

The Color of Fear Matty Sintestro Corps Member 2 pack was Also Fetching crazy amounts . It sold out really quickly , and was huge for Army Builders. This 2 pack is going to be offered tommorrow on Cyber Monday again. I'd put 1 of these away too, if you can get 1.

Wave 1 figures are hit and miss too.
Some are more difficult to get , because alot of DCU Collectors Just Popped up around wave 6. So they back peddled to get the 1st waves, and more people enter collecting these every day.

Wave 9 Figures have been Difficult for some people to get ... more so Wildcat, Guardian and Black Adam .... I'd watch these ...

I wouldn't open either of these myself.

I guess it all depends.
I like to play with them myself.
However once I see something Fetching a certain amount on Ebay MOC ..., I then freak out somewhat, and I am afraid to open them. I am sure most of it is and will be short lived, like the New MOTU Classics, but still. I guess that's why I collect Both.


BTW .... BBTS was some DCU's like Iron as low as 4.50 carded right now too.

Wow, I think there may be a science to all of this I have some of these still on the card. I guess for me I would keep them on the card but I also enjoy watching my son play with them. Money being tight these days, I have to choose carefully what I purchase and keep doubles of. Having said that, I really do enjoy seeing whole collections loose on display.

figures are being re-released all the time, there will be no value in these in 20 or 30 years.

My plan is to open all of them when I get my toy room. I worked too hard and long to keep them all MOC. I want to build the CnCs (well, all but Giganta since I still need GG).

I do have All-Star Batman and Robin that I don't plan to open.

I open everything nowadays. Totes upon totes full of financially worthless 90s action figures tell me to just have fun with them.

I don't have many ...., But do have Enough ... it is funny how the 90's Spawned The most worthless Valued Action Figures ever.

It's the speculation boom. It spread from baseball cards, to comics, to action figures. What once was hot, you can't even sell for original retail in most cases.

I donated two whole totes full of figures to our local toy drive this year. It felt good, and it released some pressure in the house.

I'm not sure ANY action figures are going to be worth what they once were. Its a legit hobby now. People go into it with the mindset of preserving these things meant. Supply far outweighs demand. I'm sure there will be pieces in the most popular lines, but overall, the golden age of turning a long-term investment on a then-new action figures is over.

I think some figures Today, do retain over the Value of Purchase. I by No Means am Talking Hundreds of Bucks here either. Nore do I think or am trying to imply 30 yrs from now, this figure is gonna be worth 200 Bucks. But some stuff does have over Market Value ... I watched a Bat Lantern from DCD Wave 3 of The Lantern Guys go for 45 On Ebay last week. My Comicbook Guy was selling these last yr for 14.95 .

All this speculation make one lose sight of the fun of the figures themselves. That is sad. I remember loving my figures so much as a kid and I want my sons to have the same experiences (maybe with the babysitter too )
