    Gygor review!

Earlier this week, I reviewed the first half of the September MOTUC Matty release with my look at Chief Carnivus. Last night I finished up by checking out Gygor. I love big apes, so you can bet I loved this guy!

You can find all the reviews at the usual:

Michael Crawford's Review of the Week - the number one source for action figure, toy and pop culture reviews!

    Thanks for reading!

As you mention, it's pretty clear that Mattel's CNC Grodd, Ultra Humanite, and this figure are all sharing parts.

Nope - they're not. i updated the review after seeing some side by side photos. There's a big scale difference, although I suppose they could have retooled for the larger size with the initial sculpts.

I'm surprised. They definitely look like they're the same sculpt at a glance. I'm impressed they didn't just adjust the figure scale to the size of the mold.

Mattel insists that they don't share any parts. That said, there are clearly a few instances where the molds have just been increased to a larger size. Whether that deems it a "new" piece or not seems to be a matter of semantics I guess.

I have both figures, and they're definitely different sculpts. Gygor is a lot bigger in the chest, whereas Grodd has more of a pot belly. The arms and legs, while very similar, have different fur patterns altogether, and Gygor's hands have been "humanized" in proportion slightly to hold his battle axe.

thanks for posting side by side pic. based on matty's pic it looked like gygor was just a loaded up grodd.
