    MOTUC Carnivus review

I've got some good stuff for reviews all week this week, starting out tonight with the Chief Carnivus figure from MOTUC. The poor guy is sort of stuck between the old school fans who don't care all that much about him and the 200x fans that don't either. But I do!

You can find the reviews at the usual:

Michael Crawford's Review of the Week - the number one source for action figure, toy and pop culture reviews!

    Thanks for reading!

Michael, you're great, man! Another great review!

I agree... quite a weird character pick... after reading your review
I can only conclude that the "MOTUC team" at MATTEL is enjoying the possibilities of the new line as much as a guy like you that is simply enjoying the "line" itself rather than the characters one by one...

...and, ya know, I thoink that's actually very healthy despite the obvious
gripe of the relative intangibility of access to buying the line that other
    MOTU line releases have enjoyed.

    Cheers!

Great review. I had never heard of Chief Carnivus before. I am a fan of the original series of toys so I was scratching my head when I heard this guy was coming out. I have collected the whole line so far and was even thinking about selling him when I got him. I changed my mind however when I saw it. He really is a great looking sculpt.

On it's own Carnivus is a nice figure. But he looks like he fits in more with Thundercats than MOTU. He is also a fairly minor character. I think MOTUC has been jumping the shark a bit lately with Marzo, Carnivus, Mo-Larr and Gygor getting figures when so many A-list characters like Ram Man and Sorceresss still haven't been done.

I know they've said they have to spread out the A-listers but when you start to see stuff like Gygor in the line you really start to scratch your ahead at some of their choices. Next month things look to be really turning around though with Roboto and then Grizzlor in November and Buzz-Off December.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

Once the A-listers are finished... they are finished (as in "released").

This line has no reason to alter it's way of spreading the A-listers WAY out
simply because they are selling crazily no matter WHO is released.

God forbid, they WEREN'T, and they were still doing this, then we may have
ended up like the recent INDY JONES figures... the line shutting down before
          many major characters are released.

It's all about patience, I'd say.

Between the MOTU and She-Ra characters MOTUC has enough A (and B) listers to go on for years and years. I think Mattel is maybe beginning to think that way too with the more popular upcoming releases like Roboto, Grizzlor, Buzz-Off, Bow, Battle Armor Skeletor and King Hiss. It's nice to have a mix but, in my opinion, they might have been padding a bit too much lately when you see such an obscure unreleased prototype like Gygor getting a figure.

I would hazard a guess most MOTU fans have heard of unreleased figures like He-Ro, Eldor and The Star Sisters as the characters nearly made it to production and were featured in advertising and products. The Star Sisters even made it into an episode of the She-Ra cartoon. But, honestly, how many would have heard about Gygor before he was announced for MOTUC? I would say not very many.

I'll take your word on that because even tho' I own every vintage MOTU
character released, I don't know other characters all that much.

That is all very interesting to me as I'm "this" close to getting into characters
outside the vintage toy figure releases for the MOTU (which didn't even
include vintage She-Ra in how I collected them back when).

Yes... I guess Gygor is odd in the way that yoiu described him, but it seems
that once a character is THAT "odd", the team at MATTEL want to rush it to
release, eh? I mean, with releases like Mo-Larr and Wondar (Wonder Bread
He-man or whateverisname is!)... so in THAT way (for them) releasing
Gygor seems to be more important than, say, Roboto.

Well, I've enjoyed waxing philosophical on this line... it's just really cool (even
if I only end up owning, like, 20 of 'em!).

MOTU is one of my all time favorite toy lines. I enjoy discussing it as well.
