    Hasbro POTA

Hi there. I know this board has lots and lots of Ape enthusiasts so I hope someone can answer my question, which I'll ask in just a bit.

I own all 7 of the 12" Hasbro (Classic) POTA dolls, I just verified today. I had other reasons for digging deep into my stash of toys so it took me some time to finally get around to it. Besides, the weather at last got nice. I never did support the Sideshow POTA line due to their cost and I got the Mego/Emce scale apes even more recently. Yeah, I was one of those people Hasbro made suckers of, you know, where and when Hasbro was selling exclusive figures on their website such as: POTA, Batman The Animated Series, or the Jerry Robinson style Batman & Robin 9" figures--but later on us consumers found them at discount cost at outlets like Factory 2 U.

Unfortunately, I don't have the space inside my home what with having kids and all so I have resorted to storing so much of what I've bought and collected over the years inside storage units. On one hand this has been handy to free up space inside the home, but on the other hand it becomes quite a task trying to recall exactly what is part of your collection when you can never see it out in the open and you're unsure if it's complete. If I were to add my toys with the toys my kids have in the house it would be complete chaos!

Back up to some time ago when I saw a Hasbro 12" POTA tubed container with an ape wearing an orange zipped up jumpsuit. I wasn't sure I had this toy and at the time I didn't have the additional $8 to pick him up as I was getting other things. This was at one of the three locations in my neck of the woods known as Bookman's, which sales new and used books and pretty much anything else electronic-wise so long as it's used goods. But the location I was at is the furthest from my home and, no surprise, the ape in the orange jumpsuit is long gone now.

So did I see a legit Hasbro item or did some seamstress customize an outfit for this ape and repackage it back inside the Hasbro tube? I looked on eBay and cannot find any 12" scale POTA wearing orange jumpsuits.

Well, perhaps I misremembered and it wasn't an orange jumpsuit then. Oh well. I did come across some pictures online of Sideshow apes dressed in that manner, but surely someone wouldn't swap clothes and then take a huge loss by selling/trading in @ bookmans.com

It's more of a red, and it's legit. My memory is failing me, but it may have been an exclusive of some type. I had one, but blasted all my 12" stuff a long time ago. I'm surprised you can't find one online

I have the one shown in the pic. Unless my memory is failing me, the one I thought I saw or didn't have was a jumpsuit like what prisoners wear with a zipper in the front.

Then you've got me - I thought this was the only limited version from Hasbro. The only other thing I can think of would be if the top is two pieces and it was missing the first layer

I agree with Steve, this is the only one I remembe seeing. Maybe you're thinking of a Sideshow release?

Yeah, it probably was a Sideshow jumpsuit, but the ape itself was packaged in the Hasbro tube. If someone did customize a Hasbro ape like that they sure took a lost selling it to a pawn shop like Bookman's. I've seen stranger things at Bookman's over the course of 25+ years. Still, I am totally kicking myself for not grabbing the ape because I think he was only $8, which meant the seller only got a few bucks for him.

Maybe it had set in the front of a window or something and sun bleached the outfit a bit.
