I still have the gray "too big" one that the Spirit of Light manufacturer made in the 1980's. I'll have to dig it out and take a photo when they have John & Tom's released.

I sold my Spirit of Light sonic screwdriver on ebay a few years ago.

I was shocked it went for about $125.00 -- and that was without packaging.

Entertainment Earth has the Pre-Order up. Sept. release! Big Bad Toystore does not. The pic does not look as good as the SDCC pic, I guess this is a prototype, and I see some differences from Tom Bakers version. Still CO/UT has never let us down on classic toys. Price = $29.95.

Mike, in regards to the Spirit Of Light Sonic Screwdriver, I think it was $24.99 when it first came out. They stopped making them and the value shot thru the roof. If it had been $100 + to start I never would have bought it. I was only 15 in 1984 and I had no job. There's no way I would have tried to buy a $100 item.

I had that one Star Tech sold it too you right?

I got in teen trouble at the adult monthly Friends of the Time Lord meetings for bringing it with the batteries in it.

"EEEEEEP!" " EEEEEP!" when me and my buddies got bored with the adults.

                Got it taken away

I either got it at Star Tech or bought it at a Dr Who convention (King of Prussia, PA circa 1984-ish) ... I forgot where but it was one of the above.

I bought it from Star Tech. I knew it was too big when I got it-but still loved having it. Y'know, I could be wrong but I think the blueprint in the Doctor Who Tech Manual is the same size. Maybe they assumed the illustration was the correct size and patterned it off the drawing?

Funny story about the day I carried it in my back pocket. I was hanging out with a friend of mine who hated, repeat, HATED Doctor Who. We went to a store in his neighborhood, Deer Park, Long Island, and all the time I was there people kept staring at me. I had forgotten the Sonic Screwdriver was sticking out my back pocket for all to see. No one knew what the hell it was. When we got home my friend discovered that I had it on me and realized people saw it and stared. He was super-pizzed about it. He would not give an inch on burying the show and here I had sort'a secretly generated interest in it. I thought that was really cool how it pizzed him off. Damn straight! That's what you get for not liking Doctor Who! I haven't spoken to him since 1988.

Sonovagun! Looks like they did pattern it right out of the DW Tech manual.

That U shaped button activates the sound. In some episodes I think the middle ring slid up and down to manipulate the intensity of the device. Never figured out how they made the ring functional.

The plastic is made of styrene like a model kit. I had sanded the seams smooth and intended to paint it silver but never did.

The sound aminates from the top here. The dash of silver is from a silver-paint majic marker. I thought rather than spray-painting it silver I might coat it with the paint-marker. Glad I didn't! I recall seeing this top part swivel, tilt up & down and pop on or off in The Horns of Nimon. It must have had a ball-joint.

The battery compartment at the bottom.

                      Bbbbbbrrrrrrrrrrrtttttt! Oh yeah. That works!

                        Very cool, John

Mine had a little twist off instruction on the bottom cover

Also, mine never had that line on the head's reverse side.
