    What happened to Toy Biz?

So why did Toy Biz get out of the Action Figure game? I would think the success of the Marvel characters on top of Lord of the Rings and Wrestlers would have meant they were a successful division of Marvel Entertainment.

Why did Marvel stop making toys and license their characters out to Hasbro?

It seemed like a strange move to me, particularly when Perlmutter and Arad were the owners of Toy Biz when they took over Marvel. It seemed kind of like killing their baby so to speak.

Lord of the Rings figures had reached their natural end.

TNA figures were losing them money.

And the Marvel Legends had also reached what they thought was the end of the line.

Consider this... foot the bill to make stuff and hope it sells, or let someone else foot the bill and still get paid?

Toy Biz was losing money, and Hasbro had truckloads of it. Makes business sense to me.

Too be fair, they did try to soldier on for a while with the Legendary comic book thing.....trouble was, except for Conan, most of the characters they picked were duds. I think they just did the line in the first place to try keep Jesse Falcon happy. Not sure where he ended up?

All those figures were great. The problem was that they should've come out 15 years ago.

But the BAFs from that line are stupendous. Both Pitt and Monkeyman.

Yeah, the Legendary Heroes line was great looking, but those characters were past their prime, especially at mainstream retail.

Was Toy Biz still part of Marvel when Disney bought them? If so, Disney owns it's own toy company.

That Legendary Heroes line clogged the pegs at Wal-Mart for almost two years....

Wave 2 didn't - never saw it at retail. But I could go pick you up a Conan 2 pack right now if you'd like...

The 2 Packs Did. The Red Head Chick and Judge Death in Wave 2 Lingered a bit , but nothing like some of the crap that won't go away today.

I miss Toy Biz's Lord of the Rings line. I hope Hasbro picks up the license for The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings, and does a 1/18th line as in depth as Star Wars.

Marvel Toys Conan was great. It would be nice if some company could continue what was started here with Conan Comic based figures. Neca would be great if they would articulate their figures. No statues like they did for the 1982 movie!

Marvel Toy's Judge Dread and Judge Death figures were both awesome!

Thats right. Pretty damn azz-backwards ain't it? Toy Biz = great Marvel figures. Hasbro, shrink `em to 3 & 3/4. They wanted to shut Toy Biz down in 2000 after it's talent moved into Marvel to help with movies and then realized they forgot they had LOTR contracted.

I don't know man. Hasbro managed to wreck Marvel Legends imo and I cringe to think what they would do to LOTR. I guess it would be a better choice than Mattel.
