Why are there no figures of movie icons?

I always wonder: they make figures of just about anyone these days, but great actors rarely get a figure.
I'd love a nice 12 inch of Charles Bronson, Yul Brynner, Clint Eastwood, even guys like Bogart, James Stewart,...

So many fantastic actors, but not one figure.
Don't tell me all of their estates are against granting licenses?

I'd kill for a set of the Magnificent Seven or The Great Escape.
I know, maybe there's no demand for them, but I see so many figures and think "man, who wants that?"
Toys McCoy made one Steve McQueen, with a nice price tag of $500, and that's like ten years ago.

Somebody throw this guy a bone, OK?

Great Escape would be fantastic !!!!!!!

    Also,

These types of properties are the realm of Sideshow and Dragon where a smaller niche is played to at much higher dollar per unit price.

        see their Wild Bunch brando
Sideshow Collectibles, Inc. - Marlon Brando / Marlon Brando 12-inch Figure 1950's Version
or in the realm of properties original BSG Athena

For a lot of actors, they could use looks from different films.
Yul Brynner could have Magnificent Seven and Westworld, without mayor changes.
Bronson could have Escape, Magnificent Seven and Deathwish: all you need is a costume change.

One good face sculpt, and the rest would be easy....

As I found a few years back, the biggest detriment to this is mass retailers dont want them...period!

Sideshow and others have attempted to do something along this line with John Wayne, and they announced plans to do others, but since they havent materialized, I'm guessing the orders/sales werent there. I've read that companies like sideshow and Dragon, who depend more on the hobby stores to move product, have seen their business dwindle in recent years, due to the shrinkage of hobby retailers, and the smaller chains that would carry there stuff. Probably why sideshow has been switching to more popular licenses like Star Wars and GI Joe, and other companies like DiD, and Dragon have all but disappeared.

There are lots of Clint Eastwood sculpts...here's one of them, in fact, for 12 inch figures:

For a limited time VelvetMorning is offering both versions of hisMan with No Name sculpts. (with Hat and without Hat) Orders will be taken between March 5th, 2010 - April 9th, 2010.

Someone is working on James Stewart, but the likeness isn't there to me yet...

There is a great Charles Bronson, but I can't find a picture of the sculpt. He is available with hat and without...and it's for a 12 inch figure.

Yul Brenner I haven't seen yet.

Samples of my work are found here: Life, Liberty and Pursuit of Happiness

                To do list:
1:6 boots for Mathilda, 1:1 Romulan Commander outfit, Ursus helmet; Cornelius appliance
                1:9 scale ape's new suit for Cornelius;

With the dead celebrities, the relatives can be a big problem sometimes. Attempted to get a likeness once, family member was extremely uninterested.

They're out there. Yamato released a generic 12" cowboy that was clearly patterned on the Man With No Name and featured an Eastwood Sculpt.

And as far as The Great Escape, 21st Century Soldier made a McQueen figure on a motorcycle boxed set. I sold mine in 2007.

I'd love to see a John Wayne done in the vein of the classic 64 GIJoe, even using a lot of the same gear, along with western gear.

Just last week two new Ben Molina customs hit my doorstep: Clint Eastwood as the Outlaw Jose Wales and John Wayne as Rooster Cogburn. I am currently away from home but once I get back I will post pictures. Ben's work is truly amazing.
