    Popeye Figures

I y'am what I y'am and that's all that I y'am! Today I'm taking a look at one of my new favorite toys. It's not a new toy by any means, in fact it's almost a decade old now. However if you haven't ever seen Mezco's Popeye line or have forgotten how awesome it was, then let me refresh your memory. I'm going to be looking a couple of the classics over the next couple days and I'm starting with the titular sailorman himself. Check out the full review over at Infinite Hollywood!

I love this line. Wish I could buy more, but they're always so 'spensive.

I started buying this line the same day I saw it on the pegs! I was always a fan of Popeye and these looked too good to pass up. I didn't even question the price. As far as I'm concerned ALL action figures are over-priced! Star Wars, MARVEL, DC 3 & 3/4 inch are all too expensive. We are paying what we used to pay for the larger Marvel legends figures for these damn things! And anything 5 inch or larger starts at 14.99 and up? It's damn crazy!

Anyways, back to Popeye. I think I got all but the last wave of these-which I regret missing out on. When K.B. Toys and Hobbies went out of business I walked into a branch and spotted a super-large 12" Popeye figure Mezco made. I grabbed that baby up for like under $10 I think. That was an awsome find! I think when you have more cartoony type characters, Popeye & Bugs Bunny, the action figure community at large doesn't support the lines. Whereas when a figure of Space Ghost was made it got Toyfare's Toy of the Year, ( and deservedly so I think).

I know cartoon genius John Krisfaluci once lamented the fact that no one was making solid, posable cartoon characters but I havet'a say he must not have seen these figures. I also have most of the Warner Brothers figures from the Looney Tunes 2003 line and they are really nice sculpts as well. They are terrific! I do recall seing Popeye in 2-packs a few years ago. Weren't they re-released?

Yeah, I think they were re-released as a dealer exclusive in the States. Great line. I managed to get most of them, and cherish them as much as the Playing Mantis/Round 2 Christmas figures. All of these are the kind of stuff I wish toymakers would produce more of!!

I've got my share of awesome Popeye toys too, Mezco, plush, and other trinkets. But I still regret missing out on the last Popeye wave by Mezco even though much it was just repainted figures with different accessories. The fact that Alice the Goon is going for so much money and is such a rare and in demand figure bugs the heck out of me as I was hoping to add her to my collection. Who knew, she'd be so VHTF?

Today I'm taking a look at Bluto from Wave 3, or Brutus if you prefer. This is one of the variants I really like, as there's something really spiffy about this repaint. I have a full review of the man with the bad attitude, plus a figure comic where he does battle with our favorite sailor over at the usual.

I LOVED these figures! I have series one, series 2 was ALWAYS so hard to find, and now when you do they are crazy expensive. I would LOVE to have a Navy Popeye and Bluto. The Sea Hag and the Goon would be great to have too. Oh well, I can dream can't I?

The FAO B&W exclusives were beautiful as well, again, $100 bucks is a bit steep for me.

I'm a HUGE Popeye fan - I've got that one and the 12" - the 12" is actually one of my favorite toys ever.

I didn't get any more of them, but this was an amazingly well done line!

LOVE Popeye. The figures are awesome as has been mentioned.
Speaking of Popeyes, who has been to a Popeyes fast food joint? They have the BEST french fries ever!! IMO
